December Happenings

Trying to get caught up here...Its been a busy time for our family. I have recently went back to work full time in a nursing leadership role with also fitting in a few shifts at the hospital. Matt is getting his business going in the meantime. We have done some adjustments with home life and just trying to stay on top of things. The blog is one of those things that was put aside. This blog is important as this is our family history that can be looked at in the future.

December...included lots of parties, activities and feeling the Christmas spirit.

Basketball

Carter was one of the six 7th graders that made the Jr High basketball team.

This is a huge accomplishment with him being so small in height and showing his skills. There was over thirty 7th graders that tried out for the team. I love his determination!

He was also able to achieve honor roll status with his grades. That is very impressive with how much school they missed with games and juggling early morning and after school practices. This was such a great learning experience for him. So proud of him!

He also played on a competition basketball team in his spare time. Ha Ha. This kid loves to be busy with sports activities and we love to watch him!

August happenings

The last month of summer came and gone.

Spent the first week of August in Minnesota at the Mayo Clinic where he underwent lots of testing.

4th of July Fun

It was a perfect holiday weekend! We had our annual neighborhood BBQ and cul-de-sac firework show. The kids enjoyed the slip n slide.

On the 4th we watched lots of baseball.

Carter's All-Star game was at noon and Ashlynn and I watched some of the parade before the game.

Carter was the starting pitcher and then played catcher the rest of the game. He had an inning where he struck out 3 batters, had an out at home and then had an awesome smash of pop up hit to center field, but it was caught. We were all surprised it was caught, but the center fielder did a great job with that catch. You can't help but cheer for both of them even though they are on opposite teams.

Our All-star team came up with the win 10-1 against the West Layton team. It was such a good game to watch. The best of the best battling it out.

Baseball Season

What a great season!

We had a great team and it was so fun to watch them work together to win. We were in the lead for the playoffs but lost the playoff game. We can't complain we all had a great time watching good baseball. It is fun to watch these kids grow older and see them stronger each year.

Carter filled in for one game as catcher this year and enjoyed it. So, he played that position several times and played it very well with his quick reflexes. (Maybe all that cup stacking came in handy) It amazes me that he likes it so much after all the fears of being hit by a baseball. Now he is in direct line of the ball each pitch, but not many balls get past him. He also was one of our strongest and most consistent pitchers.

End of season party.

This is always a good way to end the season. Recognizing the players and encouraging them to play again. We had a parents vs. kids baseball game that was so fun. The kids were surprised that us adults could hit the ball. Silly kids never underestimate what your parents can do..haha.

The kids had to vote for their top 3 players to represent our team at the All-star game on the 4th of July. Carter was the top vote along with Elias and Chandler being the alternate. These are some great boys that show good sportsmanship.

Can't wait for next Spring..I love this game!

He loves this game: Basketball

Carter has finished his year long Basketball season. Wow, that was a lot of basketball! He has improved in every way. We love to watch him play.

He may not have the height but he sure can make the long outside shots.

He looks forward to every game.

You can always hear the sound of a bouncing basketball in our driveway. He practices everyday and will convince any one that comes up to the house to play one on one with him. He even will make bets with the neighbors that he can make crazy long shots. He has won a few ice cream cones.

The week after school was out he attended a High School basketball camp. He learned how the short guys get around the big players to make points. This kid is determined.

His plan: Try out for the Jr High team and make it.

It's summer and that means...Lagoon Time!

We always look forward to summer because we can spend time at Lagoon. We have several friends that have passes and can join in on the fun. Our first ride of the year was the white roller coaster. We had a very hot June and spent a few times at Lagoon a Beach to cool off. The kids just disappear with their friends with all the water slides and forget about their mom's. So we can chat and have our own fun. Love this time of year!

Tumbling Recital

End of the year tumbling recital.

Ashlynn was so excited to show off her skills that she has been practicing all year. She mostly was excited to have her brother watch because she feels out numbered with how many ball games she has to attend and this was his payback...2.5 hours of tumbling and dancing. HaHa. Got to love her sense of humor. :)

We are so proud of her accomplishments and she is going to try a cheer class this summer. She is always hesitant to try new things, but she is excited for her new class.

June Celebrations

Matt is pretty lucky..His Birthday and Father's day are in the same month.

Since, Matt's new diet involves no eggs we got creative with his cake. We made it out all of his favorite treats.

Father's day we put a tool box together with all of his favorite things: Coconut water, gum, socks, chap stick, cooling items for his head, water mister with a fan and water bottle with straw and a back scratcher.

Last Days of School

School is out!

The school year just went by so fast. Carter & Ashlynn had a great year! This was Carter's last year at the elementary school and he is excited to join his friends at the Jr high. Ashlynn finally has the school to herself.

Lincoln Olympics!

I love that our school supports exercise and has kept this tradition since Salt Lake City hosted the Olympics. Matt even joined in on the fun with helping with the shot put event.

Carter received lots of awards: Almost perfect attendance (only 1 tardy), 3rd place in the Decathlon, 3rd place in the mile, Sportsman award, Geek squad (the tech club), Well rounded student, Student council and a few more I can't remember...

I am so glad that Carter was surrounded by people at the school that supported him and made him want to be there everyday and do better. Carter had a very positive experience at Lincoln and he can't wait for his new adventure...Jr. High. He is mostly excited about the sports programs. If you know Carter Basketball & Baseball are his passions.

Double Digit girl

This cute freckled girl turned 10!

What a joy she is to our little family! Her and Matt are our comedians of the house and always bring laughter.

Ashlynn planned out her own pioneer party. We played pioneer games, made mini loafs of bread, dutch oven sloppy joes and a dutch oven cake. We then made rag dolls out of pieces of fabric. They turned out so cute.

Here we are again..our favorite time of year..baseball season!

Matt is coaching with his friend Dustin and we have a really good team this year.

Carter is back on the pitching mound with a stronger arm this year. Its early in the season and he is fastest, most accurate pitcher we have seen so far. He has had some great innings striking out 3 batters to end the innings quick. Love this time of year!

Pet Bunny

If you haven't heard we have added another small animal to our house. How is it that I am not a pet person and suddenly we have 2 birds, a hamster and now this little cute thing. I do have to admit its cute, doesn't make any noise and can stay outside. I just feel guilt that the kids want dogs and cats and I am too miserable around them due to allergies, so this is my compromise.

Carter bought her at Baby Animals days with his birthday money. And named it 'Stephen Furry' after his favorite basketball player Stephen Curry.

Matt has went a little overboard with the sweater.

She loves Carter's soft grey blanket, she will get nice and comfy on it.

Ashlynn likes to walk with it on it's leash..who knew they had bunny leashes.

She also has a play pen to keep her from wandering off.

Matt also built this bunny hutch for her to sleep in outside. He did amazing job!

And she loves lettuce so Carter brought home a side of lettuce for the bunny from kneaders.

Mother's Day 2015

Happy Mother's Day to all the women! I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by good examples of motherhood. We are all different in our own way whether we have children or not, whether we are a working mom or stay at home mom. Most of us just want to feel that we are doing the right things for our family. I feel very blessed to have these two kids and I learn from them every day. We are all here on earth to obtain the same goal to be happy, do what is right and that will eventually lead us back to where we came from in heaven with Heavenly Father. So, glad that we can be here on this earth to enjoy life together.

I have been doing lots of substituting with bananas so he can enjoy baked goods so that he doesn't get so sick after eating. I wish we would of figured this out sooner.

A Deacon in the house

Carter has turned 12 and that means his is officially in the Young Men's program in our ward. He has been looking forward to this for a while since most of his friends have moved up since they are a year older than him. I have already seen the increased confidence in him. He enjoys passing the sacrament and the extra activities they do. After only a month he was asked to give a talk in Sacrament meeting. He was hesitate as first, but he did like a champ. He had his talk typed out with a personal story about charity and few scriptures. He was calm, spoke clearly and he did great. There were some visitors sitting in front of us that told him that they enjoyed his talk and that he did very well for his first talk. How did they know it was his first..well..Carter started out his talk telling everyone that it was his first one ever in front of this many people. He got a few laughs with that comment. Love this kid!

Carter's Basketball Party

Carter is all about basketball lately since it consumes most of his life right now. He just loves the sport and it keeps him active. We reserved the church gym for pizza, ice cream and basketball fun. I had games planned to win prizes but all the boys just wanted to play basketball the entire 3 hours and didn't want to leave. It was great because there was enough boys for two entire teams and a few subs. They even organized a tournament with smaller teams. It was a fun night for Carter to celebrate his 12th birthday with his basketball buddies. And of course, Ashlynn brought along a friend to keep her from getting too bored.
