I'm currently preparing for a show at the 95 1/2 Salon on Main St. here in Nyack. I'll have my artwork hanging in their shop next week, and I get to create a window display, too. I'm really excited about this aspect of the show, because it's been a while since I created a window display. I'll be sure to share photos once everything's completed, and I hope to announce an Opening Reception date. The only problem I have with this is that I may have a weak turnout since it's the middle of summer and many people are on vacation.

I also am continuing to customize TOMS Shoes. In fact, I'll be going to some of the Style Your Sole parties that they coordinate.

I decided I needed a break from the normal routines of life right now, so I went to the Tappan Zee and took my first night photos. I had a lot of fun not only taking the photographs, but also watching the locals getting on and off the dock. The image above is a short animation that I created of the the evening's photos.

I have too much going on right now to share everything and keep up with posts regularly, so I've been updating more routinely on my facebook page and twitter.

Art Walk Nyack

I'm honored to be a part of the Art Walk here in Nyack this year. My artwork will be featured in the Maria Luisa boutique located at 14 South Broadway. I have several new pieces that I will be showing for the first time, including a couple of large mixed media paintings on birch.

If you haven't attended the Art Walk in previous years, here is a little information that may help:

"Throughout the Village stores are turned into mini art galleries with the artists in residence. This year there will be 27 participating venues/artists.

Stroll up and down the streets of Nyack from Main St down Franklin and up Broadway, view and/or purchase works by the wonderfully talented selected artists. Shop the stores, eat, drink and enjoy the Village."

The Art Walk is scheduled for the following times, but if you are unable to attend during these hours, the artists will have their work on display during the entire weekend. However, these are the times when we artists will be with our work.

Friday, June 18th 7-9pm

Saturday, June 19th 12-5 & 6-9pm

Sunday, June 20th 12-5pm

Busy Days of Summer

I've not only been adjusting to the life with a more active baby but I've also been rather busy with my work lately. Here's a brief overview of what's happening!

I recently was a guest artist at the Nyack Street Fair for ML Gifts and Accessories, and I had a great time. I was busy customizing TOMS Shoes, and I sold select drawings and prints as well.

I'm also currently preparing for the 10th Annual Nyack Art Walk. My artwork will be featured in Maria Luisa's boutique in downtown Nyack from June 18 through June 20. I'd love to see you there, and I'm excited to be a part of the community event this year.

In addition to those events, I've also been working on some new packaging for Crunchy Clean and a new look for the Dirty Diaper Laundry blog. And I'm continually customizing TOMS Shoes. If you want to know more about this, click here.

Nyack Street Fair

Sunday should be a beautiful day for the Nyack Street Fair. I'm excited, because I'll be customizing TOMS Shoes outside ML Gifts & Accessories. In addition to this, I'll be showcasing some of my artwork. I look forward to seeing all of you here!

I'll have some new pieces there that are created on reclaimed wood and others will be a part of my scribbles-sketches series that are created on reclaimed paper. Below is a sneak preview of one of the pieces on reclaimed wood "in progress."

Red Bird - TOMS shoes

I've been working on several projects lately, and this is one that I just finished. I'm going to enter this design in the Teen Vogue contest. They're going to be choosing one design to launch a new line of Artist TOMS Shoes.

This design is a modified rendering of my drawing, Lone Bird & His Trees. I designed stamps of my illustrations, and once I received them, I stamped the designs on my TOMS Shoes. Then I added color using acrylic and ink. Finally, I finished the design using a marbling effect, similar to what I use for my Alter-ego t-shirts to create the illusion of blue skies.

Custom Stamp Illustrations for One Day

I'm ordering some stamps similar to these designs, so I can use them in the ONE DAY event here in Nyack.
I'll add color to the bird, trees, or flowers using acrylic ink and/or sharpies after the stamping has been done on your TOMS. I wanted something that could look similar to a screen print once the image was finished, so this is what I decided would work best. I'll soon share a sample, so stay tuned.

Going Barefoot

I'm going barefoot on April 8 for the One Day Without Shoes event. For every pair of TOMS shoes that are purchased at any time, one pair of shoes will be donated to a child in need. But on April 8, I'll be at the ML Gifts & Accessories One Day event creating illustrations on a pair of TOMS that you purchase. I'm currently working on ideas for these illustrations, so if you have any suggestions, now is the time to share. Right now, I have a couple of solid ideas, but there is room for more.

Originally I purchased my first pair of TOMS because of the cause, but after I began wearing them, I realized that they are comfortable. In fact, they're so comfortable that I wear mine every day! Now I have another pair on their way, so I can create an illustration for this contest. But I'll also be able to wear them...

And a pair of shoes was donated to a child in need because of my consumption. Good news!

So if you're in the Nyack area, join us at ML Gifts & Accessories on April 8. (I'll share more details about when I'll be there soon.)

The first note card was illustrated especially for the store. ML is the store on the left with a green front.
