The Cover to Cal Novel 5

First:
Again with the Supernatural thing (I'd bang my head against the wall, but the dent is already getting pretty large.) I...like Richard Dean Anderson at a Stargate Panel was only vaguely aware they named episodes and if you asked me in episode blah blah...I, like him, would say, "What? Was I in that episode? What are you talking about?" I, as a creative...questionably...person, am boggled that TV writers would waste an ounce of creativity naming an episode. You have to pump 17 of those puppies out. You need every molecule for the eps themselves...don't waste it on *naming* them. Call them Season One, ep 5 or 6 or whatever. This explains what happened to me. I finished Book 5 and was going to call it Roadtrip...as my editor has set the theme of a one word title made up of two words. However, Roadtrip is not one word, but two...Road trip. So, I be screwed. Fine. They never let me name my books anyway (Madhouse being the exception), so jokingly I stick Roadkill on the cover page and send it in. Tell my editor, yeah, it's a joke, but, hey, considering the series, you might want to think about it. They did. They took it. I tell my friend laughing...ha ha. My book's going to be called Roadkill. Sobering, shit, my book is going to be called Roadkill. She does me one better....comes back the next day, "I thought that sounded familiar. There's a Supernatural ep called Roadkill." Fuck me sideways. I tell my editor. No big deal, she says. You can't copyright a title (which should've been obvious with Deathwish.) But still....   Again, in my defense, I do not read the titles of eps and I think it's a waste of creativity you may desperately need later. BUT WHY, OH LORD??

Second:
The Tyler fans will be upset, but apparently a scheduling snafu of some sort confused things. They thought Tyler wasn't there, but he was, but it was too late, and Randall, my first Cal, happened to be in town. Now, Tyler is one hot guy, hot hot hot, there is no doubt, but as much as I love him, Randall was my first Cal and I imprinted on him like a duckling, so I'm happy to have him on this cover. AND the expression on his face: PURE, UNADULTERATED PISSY CAL.  It is the most Cal expression I could imagine. Ever. EVER. That is the most Cal I have ever seen Cal.

Third:
They wouldn't make the car red. I asked. Sorry.

Fourth: Here it is (oh, and you can tell Delilah is half Asian, which makes me happy. Diversity, people! I don't think pissy counts as diversity-Sorry, Cal.)
