In reading a lot reactions to the "Girl Comics" announcement...

I'm reading a lot of reactions to the announcement that Marvel is releasing Girl Comics, and I'm finding enough of them that it warrants a "special edition" post to WFA (and I'm writing this post before I finish the WFA one so that I can include this--OH HO HO I AM SNEAKY LIKE THAT).

Something that stands out to me is how I've seen a number of people say how happy they are to see that Devin Grayson is writing comics again.

I understand why some people didn't like her run on Nightwing or take objection to certain aspects of it. But I've seen a lot of really sexist and bigoted comments made about her that are really unwarranted, and it's bothered me that a good (female) writer seemingly disappeared from comics. I do have my nit-picks about her take on the bat-family, but she really had a good feel for the characters overall in stuff like Gotham Knights.

I know I'm not the only person who's wondering what DC may do to top Marvel in making comics for "girls" made by "girls". There's a ton of talent out there, but I wouldn't mind seeing her write a bat-family story again.

Come to think of it, there aren't any female writers working on bat-books right now, and I can't think of any recent ones off the top of my head. Additionally, is Gail Simone the only woman writing a major DC superhero right now? I know there are a few artists who are women working on big-name DC characters (such as Nicola Scott and Amanda Connor), but writers? Anyone know?
