Widow's Mites

Image
This week in my Religion 211 New Testament Class we read a lot in the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).  One story that stuck out to me that Jesus gave was about the Widow's Mite. To give a little bit of context to this story: Jesus was teaching about taxes, celestial marriage, the two great commandments and the divine sonship of Christ along with the widow's mites.  He was giving a higher law instead of teaching about Moses' law. When we look at the widow, we see the focus on how strong her faith was.  She had NOTHING but the clothes on her back and the money in her hand.  She didn't have to give that little bit of "money" because she was poor, right? But you see, that is not the point.  Her gift to God was so "beautiful because it shows how deep her faith goes - all the way down to the pennies." Service to Others

This week has been an interesting but also very inspiring week that I have encountered as a mom. I got sick over the weekend and so sick, that I could not do much for about 2.5 days. After finally feeling better, I was getting my older kids home from high school. I wasn’t fully better but enough to do “mom things.” This particular day, this past Tuesday, I was picking up four girls and so I didn’t get out of the parking lot like usual to “beat the crowds” of students. As we were pulling out and stopped in front of the school, the car in front of me didn’t move and put on its emergency lights. At that moment I look at the young women in front of me and got the feeling, she needs help. I hopped out of the car, traffic coming all around us into and out of the school and inquired. The young women had stalled out! She was scared and didn’t know what to do. I talked her through it, and she thought she got it, I hopped back in the car, and we started to go… but no luck she stalled out ag...

January 2023 - Basketball Season

Image
Life is getting busier with almost 4 teenagers in the house and one 10 year old.  It is flying by so fast, there are days I barely can get a 20 minute nap!  There are also weeks where I only fix dinner once and that annoys me because I like home cooked meals.  There is no "witching hour" with little kids, constant help with daily chores (except Jackie), whining, or physical fighting.  I now have kids that come home exhausted and want to do NOTHING till dinner.   Now we have an occasional help with a homework assignment, kids that are self sufficient with the chores (maybe a reminder or two) and a chauffer to all their activities between the hours of 2-6pm. It is the kind of busy that I am ok with but there are "cons".... getting in and out of the car because my sciatic nerve starts to hurt, being around people (at basketball games) shouting/screaming off the top of their lungs and encountering traffic (idiots that don't know how to drive). I am trying...

Jilly Bean Sewing Recap - 2022

Image
Jilly Bean Sewing  This year (and last year) my business grew.  I was busy EVERY month with at least 2-4 quilts or 1-2 smaller projects for clients.  I am very proud to where my business is growing.  I am not quite ready to work full time... still finishing up my degree, so when most of the kids are older, I can work full time.   This year: *Completed 40+ quilts, 12+ smaller gifts/projects for clients.  *Made 2-3 UNIQUE signature quilts and worked on a special project (to be revealed in Spring 2023).  * I accepted a part time position at Thread Waggle to increase my knowledge of long arming and quilting business practices. I am slowly getting myself out there and trying to balance out family, church and work.  Here are the bigger projects I worked on:
