I turned 55 in 2015 and I celebrated my 26th wedding anniversary. Our second grandson was born and I fell in love again. &nbsp;Just like no one can really prepare you for parenthood, becoming a grandma is an experience I wasn't expecting to be so life changing. &nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="color: #8e7cc3; font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif; font-size: large;"><i>This too shall pass.</i></span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;">I know this is an overused phrase, but yet it pops into my head more and more as I age. Whether it's the pain of a miscarriage, or the disappointment of a broken relationship, the situation does get better. We heal, and we survive. From the small disappointments to overwhelming trauma, it does pass. We may have to take it one day at a time, or even hours at a time, but it will get better. Embrace this idea, &nbsp;because it will help you get through the tough times.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif; font-size: large;"><i>Take a Deep Breath</i></span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;">Slow down. Be thankful. Take note of the beauty around you. &nbsp;Easy? Sometimes it seems impossible, but when we manage to do it, the benefits are amazing. It clears the head to let us make decisions about the priorities in our life. &nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif; font-size: large;"><i>Get to Know Yourself</i></span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;">I have general anxiety and social anxiety. I have also developed periodic depression. Do I wish I didn't have these problems? You bet. I'm also five foot tall. I can wish I was tall and leggy until the cows come home but it's not going to change my height. &nbsp; The same goes for my anxiety. &nbsp;I listen to my doctor, and over the years I've learned what works for me and what doesn't. I listen when my husband points out that I'm freaking out over nothing. I've learned to take a deep breath, and my kids remind me if I forget.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;">This year I've also learned to limit my time with toxic people and situations. I have decided that I want to spend time and energy with my husband, my kids and my &nbsp;grandchildren instead of those who are toxic to myself and my family. Again, not an easy thing to do, but something that has become a necessity.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;"><br /></span> <span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif; font-size: large;"><i>The Joys</i></span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-family: &quot;georgia&quot; , &quot;times new roman&quot; , serif;">In 2015 my second grandson was born to my son and his fiance. Calvin is a joy beyond words. He joined out first grandson, Jace, who will turn three this year. &nbsp; The three of us had a good first day at the hospital as long as I shared my attention and made sure he understood that grandma has enough love to spread around.&nbsp;</span><br /> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2odv0MEWMJ7vl6qqlETsXb6H7MbCsVj5ZTut8XmfCSi2YHdja8QLnFBXRGSX9knsQWPX8p-6am-v1-2q3g7yu7VG1SlNVrUylaSQEw_MYtxS_AGNoRyAR61cvHm0_ESvNc_c2vtCG6FYf/s1600/calvinjace2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2odv0MEWMJ7vl6qqlETsXb6H7MbCsVj5ZTut8XmfCSi2YHdja8QLnFBXRGSX9knsQWPX8p-6am-v1-2q3g7yu7VG1SlNVrUylaSQEw_MYtxS_AGNoRyAR61cvHm0_ESvNc_c2vtCG6FYf/s320/calvinjace2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> <br /> <span style="font-family: georgia, times new roman, serif;">My children are 15, 21 and 22 now, and in 2015 I watched them grow, mature and learn lessons they needed to learn on their own. &nbsp; It's hard watching our kids learn lessons. I was drawn to it originally because of my fear of the dreaded "query letter", but it has been a constant source of writing and publishing advice for me during the last year.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The tag line for the blog is <b>Helping Authors Find Literary Agents, </b>but the advice on QueryTracker addresses all aspects of writing. &nbsp; The blog post that caught my eye today is:</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><br /></b> </span><br /> <h3 class="post-title entry-title" itemprop="name" style="background-color: white; font-size: 18px; font-stretch: normal; font-weight: normal; margin: 0px; position: relative;"> <span style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><a href="http://querytracker.blogspot.com/2015/05/getting-unstuck-pure-craft.html" target="_blank">Getting Unstuck</a></span></h3> <div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My eyes nearly popped out of my head, considering what I blogged about yesterday. The post is from Jane Lebak (<a href="http://www.janelebak.com/" target="_blank">visit her here</a>) She shares her advice on how to get through a period of not being able to put those words on paper. It truly is some of the best advice I've read on the subject. Read it here:&nbsp;<a href="http://querytracker.blogspot.com/2015/05/getting-unstuck-pure-craft.html" target="blank">http://querytracker.blogspot.com/2015/05/getting-unstuck-pure-craft.html</a></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I'm always hard on myself, and I've been told over and over that I should be able to write no matter what is going on around me if I'm a true writer. After reading Jane's blog post, I'm wondering if that thought isn't compounding my fears, making me wonder if writing is my true calling.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">~Brenda</span><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2015/05/getting-unstuck-timely-advice.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Bramblemoon Farm)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-7279725830366798511Thu, 28 May 2015 00:31:00 +00002015-05-27T20:31:40.578-04:00Aquileo | Writing, Reading and Sabotage<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">During the last year I've been stalled. &nbsp;I continue to read as much as I always have but I haven't been reviewing books. My own fiction sits in a documents folder, waiting for me to take up where I left off. I lost two nonfiction writing gigs which discouraged me on the freelancing end of things.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Here is the thing: not one person, reader or editor, has said anything negative about my writing. The freelance jobs I lost were because of problems on their end. They hoped to start up again once things changed. It had nothing to do with my articles.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Certainly it's been a stressful two years with my middle son moving out, becoming a grandmother, my daughter starting high school, my oldest talking of moving across the country for grad school, illness and even death in the family. While all of these things caused change in my life, they shouldn't have kept me from writing. So, why am I stalled?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I've discovered a few things about myself in the last few months. I'm an introvert with social anxiety. Many writers have this same personality, so it's not a reason to stop writing. If anything, it should make me feel more a part of the writing community. Again, why am I stalled?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I am my own worst enemy.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>-I edit myself constantly as I'm writing.</b></span><br /> <span style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><br /></b></span> <span style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>-I doubt my ability.&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><br /></b></span> <span style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>-I am afraid of failing.</b></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Whether it's my personality, my past experiences or something else, I need to stop sabotaging myself. &nbsp;I'm starting today by writing this blog post.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I'm turning 55 next month, and it's time to stop getting in my own way. Yes, I know it's easier said then done. I've overcome a lot in my life including emotional abuse that went on for many years until I was in my late 20's. &nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">At times I think I'm so grateful for my current life with my husband and our children, that I feel guilty for seeking success. I was given a second chance and found love, a healthy relationship, a loving family and a place where I feel emotionally and physically safe. What more can I ask for?</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">~Brenda&nbsp;</span><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2015/05/writing-reading-and-sabotage.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Bramblemoon Farm)2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-1070077724915132355Mon, 29 Sep 2014 01:43:00 +00002014-09-28T21:43:39.779-04:00Aquileo | A Photo Journey of the Last Nine Months<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I basically took a&nbsp;hiatus&nbsp;from writing to get over various anxieties, burn out and then I decided to&nbsp;enjoy the summer. &nbsp;I think the pictures and their captions will give you an idea of what has been happening:)</span><div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmGI-TTQIVjBam9ZnpTMObWeThQKR4esswuMDVGgrGmvdwqY-TZBNLhy1AvVI6sw0_EoNTmQ-D4F-BDZSpAJZxnbFEuShv5e_v5odsW6fWw2-9Y-VjgAHK5C7aKp29YIRfKU9fuWFUZ6qx/s1600/winterjace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmGI-TTQIVjBam9ZnpTMObWeThQKR4esswuMDVGgrGmvdwqY-TZBNLhy1AvVI6sw0_EoNTmQ-D4F-BDZSpAJZxnbFEuShv5e_v5odsW6fWw2-9Y-VjgAHK5C7aKp29YIRfKU9fuWFUZ6qx/s1600/winterjace.jpg" height="226" width="320" /></span></a></div> <div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The winter was bitter cold and very snowy, even for Michigan, but it was worth it watching my grandson Jace and my daughter, his Aunt Emily (MeMe) play in the snow for the first time. I don't love all musicals. Some have me running the opposite direction, screaming in agony. Growing up these were my favorites:&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Mary Poppins&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>The Sound of Music&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Doctor Dootle&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>My Fair Lady&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>West Side Story&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Wizard of Oz&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Julie Andrews is hands down my favorite actress, singer and person in the entire world. This has led to watching a lot of bad musicals over the years including: All of the High School musical movies, Camp Rock and a little ditty called Lemonade Mouth on the Disney Channel. Shudder.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">However, over the last few years we've found a few gems.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><span style="color: #741b47;">BANDSLAM</span></b>&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii0jkJ6e_W9BIp4L6b2bg_YE3iPQjk_vVVoYttlKKRZGUSrO28nYd-mYBtK3KrYHxmeA8dDrms6_KTXJosQpQJ4vSVSWucZmAQt0l2Yi6IOmdyDPyhjxICkK2YXZh5ypH7YDpoR1Li0Byk/s1600/bandslam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii0jkJ6e_W9BIp4L6b2bg_YE3iPQjk_vVVoYttlKKRZGUSrO28nYd-mYBtK3KrYHxmeA8dDrms6_KTXJosQpQJ4vSVSWucZmAQt0l2Yi6IOmdyDPyhjxICkK2YXZh5ypH7YDpoR1Li0Byk/s1600/bandslam.jpg" height="177" width="320" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">This movie was marketed so wrong it was unbelievable. The music was amazing with it's light Ska influence, including a cool version of an old Bread song from the 70's.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><span style="color: #741b47;">SCHOOL OF ROCK</span></b>&nbsp;</span><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV89JR_WZOMWWzZxNA7XsjsuuMP04ASygcBMG7HU4qwNM9cf1UNlHRqpBohlU8R1Ba1D7PgATDopYjeN4EZ01Vu3o-u1L8qMBaZqBd8dnKpGNcxE_Jhl7xYGiFCXHMbXtcclqOz6foCfxM/s1600/rock.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV89JR_WZOMWWzZxNA7XsjsuuMP04ASygcBMG7HU4qwNM9cf1UNlHRqpBohlU8R1Ba1D7PgATDopYjeN4EZ01Vu3o-u1L8qMBaZqBd8dnKpGNcxE_Jhl7xYGiFCXHMbXtcclqOz6foCfxM/s1600/rock.jpg" height="234" width="320" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Yes, this is a Jack Black movie. The ending after the ending has the entire cast singing and dancing to the Elton John song <i>Don't Go Breaking My Heart</i> is just plain fun. Throw in giants, ogres, elves, dumb step sisters and an evil king. I've never read the book, and knowing Hollywood it probably doesn't follow the story, but it's a cute, adorable movie. I appreciate that most authors have warnings on the blurbs when the story contains adult themes. My daughter is 13 and has told me several times that when she searches for Young Adult the New Adult books are included. Fortunately, we talk about what she reads and she has no interest in reading something inappropriate. However, this is not always the case, and it concerns me that the filter isn't better when it comes to the categories, at least on Amazon. Those of you who've read many of the New Adult stories like I have, know that they can be gritty, gut wrenching and the sex is not for those under 17 or 18. &nbsp;Hey, I'm 53 and enjoy the new stories, but I'd prefer my 13 year old wait to be exposed the gritty world of New Adult.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">This year I'll be writing gardening ebooks for the same company I edited for last year, which is a huge challenge for me. &nbsp;I'm telling myself it's simply a grouping of articles on one topic, which is no different than what I've been doing. &nbsp;I'll still be writing home and garden articles each month, and of course reviewing books on Goodreads. &nbsp;I'm going to try and blog more, but it will have to come after the paid gigs are caught up each week or month.&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Thanks to those who've hung in here with me:)</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">~Happy New Year! &nbsp;Brenda</span><br /> <br /><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-adult-new-authors-100-books-later.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-8801636889899378588Thu, 10 Oct 2013 12:10:00 +00002013-10-10T08:10:22.370-04:00Aquileo | Time Management as a Grandmother....<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I have none-time management, that is. &nbsp;None at all. &nbsp;I am learning, but it's hard. &nbsp; My son and his girlfriend went through nine months of emotional turmoil, angst and the fear of the unknown after finding out she was pregnant. &nbsp; When the day finally came, they rallied together and supported each other like I knew they could and Jace was born. &nbsp; It was love at first sight for everyone in his life, and believe me, the waiting room was filled with his fans and his support system. &nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3QVuvXR3yLfQN1yECHajExMQxTTNcFn6rVfrlp5jvW_gUUblUYlKB5S9RdiwJ__6bm1n4hD1i-Kqo5kY7U25UiHNyyk5pTk-gYHDKC_fEBIMH5EaKSn-Ks4222Dm4fY7Af2sNaKsMadKL/s1600/jacehome2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3QVuvXR3yLfQN1yECHajExMQxTTNcFn6rVfrlp5jvW_gUUblUYlKB5S9RdiwJ__6bm1n4hD1i-Kqo5kY7U25UiHNyyk5pTk-gYHDKC_fEBIMH5EaKSn-Ks4222Dm4fY7Af2sNaKsMadKL/s320/jacehome2.jpg" width="268" /></span></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My journey as a grandmother has been completely different than the one I had as a mother. This isn't always easy, but we've been doing well. &nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">This is Jace today at 7 months old:</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpjjH-xyPhTqtAbNV9GleMOPyH4jU3J36QW2DHZj9vm8oyIkhCW51byo2RQ9OC12JBoSrOh8w5zFRy_sVkdK-aCAbiaucPEP8hsb6fKEfJkqQGmSyAIrJcuRA5nBohdeNU8ToQHxPjiJOl/s1600/booksjace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpjjH-xyPhTqtAbNV9GleMOPyH4jU3J36QW2DHZj9vm8oyIkhCW51byo2RQ9OC12JBoSrOh8w5zFRy_sVkdK-aCAbiaucPEP8hsb6fKEfJkqQGmSyAIrJcuRA5nBohdeNU8ToQHxPjiJOl/s320/booksjace.jpg" width="254" /></span></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi11Tsu8Mz9zzQVQNPFfqWeBqAz7sBJkZwq25_iTCug6OYHDtKI5DIQ4N-70E1nf99qXSsVnC_5Ek3EO0dvT4-B9hmohOZEqiLYRvTFRXSj8sH9Z3TmGRgaMAQM6431urlWckvdbgw1nA1i/s1600/moo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi11Tsu8Mz9zzQVQNPFfqWeBqAz7sBJkZwq25_iTCug6OYHDtKI5DIQ4N-70E1nf99qXSsVnC_5Ek3EO0dvT4-B9hmohOZEqiLYRvTFRXSj8sH9Z3TmGRgaMAQM6431urlWckvdbgw1nA1i/s1600/moo.jpg" /></span></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I watch Jace while his parents are at work and I'm having a hard time resisting him when I should be writing. Three warriors bound by a Code of Honor face a world of trouble… Evalle Kincaid – An Alterant (part Belador and part unknown species) – A half breed, she works twice as hard as the pure blood Beladors. The Beladors are studying her as her powers progress and develop, because those powers can turn against her and humanity.&nbsp;</span></i></span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I started reading this series in 2010 when I was sent a copy of Blood Trinity by the publisher . I've read each one, the latest being The Curse, which was released in September of 2012. &nbsp; This series is paranormal romance mixed with urban fantasy, but I also feel it has a bit of epic fantasy to it as well. &nbsp;Evalle Kincaid, the heroine, is the focus of the series. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">&nbsp; There are two romantic interests, one human and one supernatural. After reading the second book these were my feelings about Evalle and Storm:</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><i>&nbsp; The relationship between Evalle and Storm, a supernatural tracker with a secret Evalle keeps even from her friends, figures in the story prominently. He's a sexy alpha male with feelings that cause him to be uber protective of Evalle. The sexual tension is off the charts between the two of them but sex is not going to happen any time soon, which might put off some readers but I appreciated it. Evalle suffered sexual abuse in the past and it would have been insensitive and unrealistic to have her jump in the sack immediately with Storm, especially since he can tell she's been abused.&nbsp;</i></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The relationships in the series and the progress of the plot remind me of the Kate Daniel's series by Ilona Andrews in that more is revealed about Evalle, her past and her powers in each book. The romance is not the focus of the series, but it's an important element. &nbsp; The books are a perfect mix of urban fantasy and paranormal romance with fast paced action and great characters in a gritty, complex world of magic.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="color: #660000; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>The Belador Series&nbsp;</b></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">1. All Kira Callahan wants to do is swim, hang out with her best friend, Sean, and ignore the kids who torment her at school. That is, until one day when she gets invited to a party. For three minutes her life is wonderful—she even kisses Sean in the driveway. Then somebody spikes her drink at the party and some girls from out of town lure her into the ocean and hold her underwater. Kira soon discovers that the group of wild teenagers who have come to visit Crescent Moon Bay are not as innocent as they seem. In fact, nothing is as it seems—not the mysterious deaths of her sister and mother, not her heritage, not even her best friend. Brystion is sexy, and he knows it. He's striking, aggressive, passionate and often selfish...it's his nature. <strong><span style="color: #bf9000;">A Trace of Moonlight</span></strong> takes my impressions of these two men and twists them up like a Cat's Cradle gone wrong. She gave hints as early as she could, and slowly revealed the deets on her next series. I was very interested, but after the cover was released I was giddy with anticipation. Rockabilly? Noir? Hard-boiled P.I.? Angels?&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">&nbsp; </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">A summer of teen drama and freelance writing kept me from reading <strong><span style="color: #990000;">The Taken</span></strong> until this week. I found myself nervous as I started it. What if I didn't like it? Perish the thought. I plowed in with abandon and as soon as I saw dialog like this I knew I would love it: </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"> </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"><em>"Look, I'm sorry to the one to tell you, kid. He doesn't have to shop at vintage clothing stores because he IS vintage. He still wears the Fedora he had on when he died. He's a Mickey Spillane character come to life, thrown into modern Las Vegas where nothing is at it was, which makes him a tad cranky.&nbsp; He's an angel brought back to the "mudflat" to correct a mistake. </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Kit Craig is a female reporter with style, finesse, and intelligence who sees the best in everyone, and refuses to let life get her down. She's the polar opposite of Griffin Shaw, and she's determined to help him while helping herself, even if he is cranky and crazy. It doesn't hurt that he looks like he stepped out the 1950's with a presence and style that takes her breath away. <strong><span style="color: #990000;">The Taken</span></strong> is truly a breath of fresh air for me, because of the writing, which blew me away, and the unique world the author has created with it's quirky characters. I can't recall ever reading this amazing mix of mystery, romance, and urban fantasy with a noir twist. It's fast paced with action in all the right places, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Vicki Pettersson has the ability to bring the people and streets of Las Vegas alive, mixing the past and present together with the unseen paranormal aspects of the fictional world she has created. <strong><span style="color: #990000;">The Taken</span></strong> is dark and gritty, yet hope shines through Kit and her relationship with Griffin, taking the reader's breath away over and over. </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia;"></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia;">Ms. Pettersson just released the cover for the second book in the series, The Lost, which will be released in March 2013.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia;"></span><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWsznSxF_LOxTOq6CxDP7u1knvpeUSDhZr8QMfe1aTtuUY0EyoAoEgmxxdtdhIiV0dCf9IKiCnfJnV5rQZbwE7adHSrykdR461PUjWERVsbp5skA0bhgNTvMvWhqUyZud86oJ9NMFTAdPF/s1600/thelost.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWsznSxF_LOxTOq6CxDP7u1knvpeUSDhZr8QMfe1aTtuUY0EyoAoEgmxxdtdhIiV0dCf9IKiCnfJnV5rQZbwE7adHSrykdR461PUjWERVsbp5skA0bhgNTvMvWhqUyZud86oJ9NMFTAdPF/s320/thelost.jpg" width="212" /></a></div> <br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">To find out more about <strong>The Celestial Blues</strong> series visit here:</span><br /> <a href="http://www.vickipettersson.com/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">http://www.vickipettersson.com/</span></a><br /> <br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">~Brenda</span><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-taken-supernatural-noir-mystery.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-5855497564897663858Thu, 30 Aug 2012 19:43:00 +00002012-08-30T15:43:36.318-04:00Aquileo | Thirteen to End It All<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6W3BgButyydo3Afz7JrBp6GR8X-9RlthkfUnE1SfVau6J0KlfdD7mnNVgFv1gu0BmDh5Y1upgyrvkfzEQMcuEeWiaATsqjELe0hmlk8GEMkfSsfoGb8j-bBsMGD7kY4k-R_g9o48tVHr4/s1600/thirteen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6W3BgButyydo3Afz7JrBp6GR8X-9RlthkfUnE1SfVau6J0KlfdD7mnNVgFv1gu0BmDh5Y1upgyrvkfzEQMcuEeWiaATsqjELe0hmlk8GEMkfSsfoGb8j-bBsMGD7kY4k-R_g9o48tVHr4/s400/thirteen.jpg" width="198" /></a></div> <span style="color: purple; font-size: large;"><strong>Thirteen</strong></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Women of the Otherworld </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Author: Kelley Armstrong </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Hardcover: 464 pages </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Publisher: Dutton Adult </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">First Edition (July 24, 2012) </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0073XV768/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0073XV768&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo" target="_blank">Available for the Kindle</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0073XV768" style="border: currentColor !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> </span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">&nbsp;</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"><strong>Summary</strong>: <em><span style="color: purple;">A war is brewing—the first battle has been waged and Savannah Levine is left standing, albeit battered and bruised. Sometimes the heroine starts out as a bit of a loner, but then she comes to realize how important it is to ask for help when it's needed. This month I read two books with heroines that had me cheering for them and feeling their pain as they discovered who they could trust and what their place is in their world.&nbsp; </span><br /> <span lang="EN"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> &nbsp;</div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"> </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxhGmAJHhyphenhyphentg94d-VZEIWMTxgnotCGl3QzJlMviP5YGea5DVXm4yrgzy0smvhfPL9bGgQhDldW-QBsQXI5DtIyk9i3O5qduaHuRszPqlp1okldXT3NDC0LE_1rdXdjziaLvFhsV1fqCpd6/s1600/summoning.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxhGmAJHhyphenhyphentg94d-VZEIWMTxgnotCGl3QzJlMviP5YGea5DVXm4yrgzy0smvhfPL9bGgQhDldW-QBsQXI5DtIyk9i3O5qduaHuRszPqlp1okldXT3NDC0LE_1rdXdjziaLvFhsV1fqCpd6/s200/summoning.jpg" width="124" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">The first kick butt gal is Arcadia Bell from the mind of Jenn Bennett in her book <span style="color: #274e13;"><strong>Summoning the Night</strong></span>.&nbsp;I love Arcadia because she's tough, independent, compassionate and she rolls with the punches. She's in a relationship with sexy Lon Butler, who comes with an energetic, smart and wiley son named Jupe. I loved the interaction between Cady and Jupe. His mother is vain and superficial, incapable of giving him any emotional support. He latches on to Cady, and becomes important to her too. They make a fun team when Lon isn't around, backing each other up in any situation. When Lon is around they become a family, which is a fragile circumstance for Cady, who was almost sacrificed by her own parents. <br /> <br /> The second book in the series, <strong><span style="color: #274e13;">Summoning the Night</span></strong> is a fast paced urban fantasy with romantic elements. The characters are rich, complex and often surprising. I highly recommend this series to fans of Ilona Andrews, Rob Thurman and Allison Pang. <br /> <br /> I'm excited that there will be two new Arcadia Bell stories in the next year. <strong>Leashing the Tempest</strong> is a novella that takes place after the second book. It's a special Christmas story with Cady, Lon, Jupe and Kar Yee. In June of 2013 the third book, Binding the Shadows, will be released. I'm looking forward to not only Cady's adventures, but how the relationship between her, Lon and Jupe progresses. The books, including the future releases are as follows:</span><br /> <br /><span style="font-family: Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"> 1. All their lives they’ve helped those in need on the sly. They’ve always thought of their abilities as being a gift.<br /><br />Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they’ve always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke’s ability? He’s always right. And he can’t do anything about it.<br /></span></i><br /><b>INTERVIEW WITH J. MEYERS</b><br /><b>Brenda</b>:<i> Intangible is an amazing YA paranormal read. I've heard you've had a wonderful response to it, so I'm hoping we can look forward to a second book in the future. Can you tell us when and if we'll be getting another story?</i><br /><br /><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;">J</span></b>: Oh, wow! Thank you so much for the compliment. :-) The response has been incredible and overwhelming--I feel really blessed, in all honesty. And, yes, there is a book two coming. I'm working on it right now and hoping it'll be out by the end of the year (fingers crossed!). And I have to say that I'm really, really excited about the story in book two.<br /><br /><b>Brenda</b>: <i>I loved the way you handled Sera's first relationship with a guy. This is such an exciting, yet stressful time for teenagers. Did you have to think a lot about how you would handle it in the story?</i><br /><br /><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;">J</span></b>: I wanted this to be a clean read--something that I'd be totally comfortable with my kids reading (and I'm really picky about that)--so I already knew there wasn't going to be any sex in it. And for Sera, for a first relationship, it doesn't make sense (to me) for it to go that way anyway. At least not that quickly. So I didn't have to really figure much out for this book. With every character I wrote, I put myself in their shoes, tried to look through their eyes, feel their reactions based on their life experiences. And with Sera there were many things I could relate to--one of which was the first relationship as a teen girl and being consumed, giddy, surprised, and also not ready for some aspects.<br /><br />Will there be more advanced relationships in subsequent books? Probably. But only when it makes sense for the characters. At the same time, I'm not writing romance, so if there is more romantic action it's still not going to be a focus of the story, just a plot point. It's important to me to write books that anyone can enjoy and that any parent isn't going to cringe that their daughter or son is reading. I want to stay true to what characters would really do, but also keep it appropriate for my youngest readers. My 9 year old wanted to read the book, and while he isn't quite in my target audience age range yet, I wasn't worried at all about the content being inappropriate for him. It was really nice to be able to say yes to him reading my book. :-)<br /><br /><b>Brenda</b>: <i>Time for a mom moment-- I loved that you explored Sera's temptation to use her gift in a negative way. I felt like there were a few "lessons" to be learned from the story, but yet you were subtle about it, so as to avoid any "eye rolling" from teens. Were you thinking about any of this as you were writing?</i><br /><br /><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;">J</span></b>: No, actually, I wasn't. I was just exploring Sera in all her imperfections. She's a good person, but she's not *all* good. She makes bad decisions sometimes, she does things she shouldn't do out of anger/frustration . . . just like we all do.<br /><br /><b>Brenda</b>: <i>When I read the description of Marc with his red hair I immediately thought of Shaun White and it stuck in my head. Did you have inspiration for your characters? </i><div><br /><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;">J</span></b>: Not really. (But I can totally see Shaun White as Marc now that you say that!) There's a little bit of me in every character, and I'm sure little pieces of people I know, but no one character was based on any one specific person. I don't even have any celebrities pictured in my head as any of my characters. (You know, except for Shaun White now.) They are each unique creations.<br /><br /><b>Brenda</b>: <i>Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I'm really looking forward to whatever story you come out with next. </i></div><div><br /><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;">J</span></b>: It's been a real pleasure, Brenda! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the story, and can't wait to share book two with you! Thank you! :-)<br /><br /><b>MY THOUGHTS ON INTANGIBLE</b><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;"><b>Intangible</b></span> is a compelling, fast paced, read with rich characters that jump off the page into the reader's mind and heart. I found myself wishing I'd had friends like Fey, Luke and Sera when I was in high school. Fey is protective, witty, mysterious and beautiful, yet she doesn't let it go to her head. Luke is good looking, loyal, smart, and caring. Sera is kind, smart, couragous and compassionate. I enjoyed the unfolding of their secrets and personalities as the story progressed. The three of them are the heart of Intangible, but that doesn't mean the other characters we meet aren't crucial to the story as well.<br /><br /><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993399;">Intangible</span></b> is set in a world where vampires, elves and magic exsist, but are unknown to most humans. Luke and Sera are 17 year old twins who have special talents that they've kept secret their entire lives until events unfold that expose what they can do. They experience heartbreak, loss and betrayal while trying to figure our how they figure into the supernatural world they've discovered. I loved the author's take on the paranormal. The story was at times heart wrenching, but never without hope. </div><div><br /></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJjXfUF1MfZdyfBFnSOOVT_d5zSY8Q3o9JMgD8EIuNSaTzA856f5dtU8uSpeQ8_ZC69bVMIl4dl0B1THzP1T59SVeQA_Rnaqym_bmC682Gfq9_mwNuG2DidfILPPVuxnH3qmhy2vpaloTy/s1600/intuition2_sm.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 211px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJjXfUF1MfZdyfBFnSOOVT_d5zSY8Q3o9JMgD8EIuNSaTzA856f5dtU8uSpeQ8_ZC69bVMIl4dl0B1THzP1T59SVeQA_Rnaqym_bmC682Gfq9_mwNuG2DidfILPPVuxnH3qmhy2vpaloTy/s400/intuition2_sm.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730271768626193698" /></a><br /><div><b>To learn more about J. In the newest story, <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#cc0000;">Nice Girls Don't Bite Their Neighbors,</span></b> we join her in preparing for her wedding, which in true Jane fashion is not simple, nor free of danger.<br /><br />Ms. Harper has a wonderful, witty, and charming style of writing. Her characters, from adorable babies to ghostly senior citizens are over the top, yet the reader can identify with them because not one of us can claim we don't have crazy in our group of friends and family. What I truly love about these books is that with all the antics, witty banter and the adventure the reader falls in love with Jane's passion and loyalty to those she loves. There are the sexy, steamy moments with Gabriel, Jane's sire, and the touching moments with Zeb, her bestfriend since childhood. I smiled as she made new friends, and wished I could go out on the town with them. We grieve with Jane, celebrate with her, giggle, sniffle, gasp, get angry and cheer her on as she "fixes" people and situations in her life.<br /><br />I'm sad that <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#cc0000;">Nice Girls Don't Bite Their Neighbors</span></b> is the last Jane Jameson story, but happy to know that her and her friends will be at least a small part of the next two stories released by Molly Harper. It's also comforting to know that Jane and her friends are no farther away then a reread of all four books in her series. If you haven't read any of Jane Jameson series, now is a perfect time to start because you don't have to wait for the books. You can read them one right after the other in all their shiny goodness.<div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg95gA-wrW8U5N26ePpFZX2Dj-dqTfuRNPMSZm8RknB1endyzC6udGqosb_U0mE78XD6mEofmRSgSsfa4PKAlAk2a1xeu6AmmMwsRGjjN1atomowmcyuvBBGg-mm_FqfoZh6pWkxARSEE7p/s1600/nicegirlsfrontfinal.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 136px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg95gA-wrW8U5N26ePpFZX2Dj-dqTfuRNPMSZm8RknB1endyzC6udGqosb_U0mE78XD6mEofmRSgSsfa4PKAlAk2a1xeu6AmmMwsRGjjN1atomowmcyuvBBGg-mm_FqfoZh6pWkxARSEE7p/s400/nicegirlsfrontfinal.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5726071053222397842" /></a><b><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/entity/Molly-Harper/B002BMFSMA/?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;qid=1333205165&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">Jane Jameson Series</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /><br /></b>1. And when the Protectorate’s away…let’s just say things spiral out of control when a spell on Abby backfires and the Faery Queen declares the Doors between their worlds officially closed.<br /><br />The results are disastrous for both sides: OtherFolk trapped in the mortal world are beginning to fade, while Faerie is on the brink of war with the daemons of Hell. Along with her brooding eleven prince Talivar and sexy incubus Brystion, Abby ventures to the CrossRoads in an attempt to override the Queen’s magic. But nothing in this beautiful, dangerous realm will compare to the discoveries she’s making about her past, her destiny, and what she will sacrifice for those she loves.<br /></span><br />Allison Pang has created a world that is magical and beautiful, yet edgy and dark at the same time. The heroine, Abby, is a wonderful character who is full of passion, loyalty, and a need to do the right thing even when it means sadness or sacrifice.<br /><br />In the second book of the series, we are reunited with characters, including a sarcastic, perverted minature unicorn, a broody incubus, a beautiful fairy baby, a crippled prince and the friends that have Abby's back. The author reveals more about all of the characters, taking us deeper into the intrique of this magical world.<br /><br />We also meet new characters, and travel in the land of the fae. A Sliver of Shadow is full of action, romance, friendship, danger, tested loyalties, and much more. I had trouble putting the book down once I started, wanting to know what was going to happen next. I have to mention that I was especially fond of Talivar, an elf who, according to our heroine Abby, looks like Legalos with a leather eye patch and facial "scruff". Let's take a minute to envision this:<div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLTuatuY4mqyruzzFlwlxHmIZPnvz8tDsVEaX3Erkdy-HRMH-wq2VVq044b4BadK7vap9Cy8OILYObdKEKubUw5SCDA2UCy7PAwWunuDTHKC3FTGhfkrSNaFG4NRDJn56qU5lYT6dm4bIH/s1600/orlando.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 204px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLTuatuY4mqyruzzFlwlxHmIZPnvz8tDsVEaX3Erkdy-HRMH-wq2VVq044b4BadK7vap9Cy8OILYObdKEKubUw5SCDA2UCy7PAwWunuDTHKC3FTGhfkrSNaFG4NRDJn56qU5lYT6dm4bIH/s400/orlando.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5724014866592805586" /></a>Sigh. Managing the bloodhound manor in Iron Creek is difficult and time-consuming, a job she enjoys less with each passing day. Then there's her inconvenient attraction to Hunter. The newly turned hound seems eager to enjoy her company, but wary of anything more intimate.<br /><br />Having survived the violence of his first full moon out of a cage, Hunter isn't looking forward to his first new moon. Ophelia offers to be the woman who sates his needs during the three long days of sexual fury, but he can't abide the thought of hurting her in a state of mindless lust. Especially since she longs to settle into a respectable life, and his needs are anything but respectable.</i><br /><br /><b>Warning</b>: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#993300;"><i>Contains a mostly feral, vampire-hunting hero and a tough survivor of a heroine whose retired-hooker heart is more steel than gold. Also included: dangerous frontier intrigue, fancy brothels, mad-scientist weapons and a good dose of wicked loving in an alternate Wild West.</i></span><br /><br />I've loved Moira Rogers' wolf stories for a long time now because of the witty banter, the sexy alphas, the strong heroines and, of course, the amazing writing. When I heard they were working on a series that was set in an alternate Old West with shifters I was thrilled, but when I found out they were giving it a steampunk twist I was downright giddy. Today the second book in the series, <b>Hunter's Prey</b>, was released. If you missed the first book, <b>Wilder's Mate</b>, I'd recommend picking it up at the same time. You could read them out of order without too much of a problem, but reading them together simply adds to the awesomeness of the stories.<br /><br /><b>Hunter's Prey</b> is a blending of romance, action, adventure and the supernatural. The setting is an alternative Old West where the citizens struggle to survive in a world where cattle rustlers and bandits are the least of their problems compared to Vampire drug lords, good guys who are scarier than the bad guys, steam powered weapons and flying ships. Hunter, our hero, refuses to see himself as a good guy since he was forced into his role as a Bloodhound, turning savage at the full moon. He feels love, happiness and family is no longer a possibility in his life. Ophelia has given up her life as a prostitute to help manage the household of two genius inventors and three bloodhounds. She's frustrated and doesn't know how long she can continue her new role unless something changes to lighten her responsibilities so she can find time for herself.<br /><br />The interaction between Hunter and Ophelia is much different than the relationship between Wilder and Satira, which is lighter, perhaps a bit more wild. Hunter is quiet, brooding and dark, but yet polite, especially to the women. Ophelia is refined with a quiet, steady strength. She's practical and blunt when it comes to the needs of those around her. They both seem to keep their needs and passions locked inside where they simmer, aching to get out. It's a journey of discovery and self acceptance.<br /><br />I loved the interaction between all of the characters in Hunter's Prey. The attention to detail in The Bloodhound series is amazing. I find myself rereading the stories because they are so unique and compelling. While the action and romance is the primary focus, the Western setting and the steampunk theme gives the stories a fascinating twist.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18vKBiIOSJ-Kcee21EVMLE0SLFohbgJhIngm7CdUWHiYOCMcQWHnt6VrfyBiwuUiKuNbC23KeumUCz5RVf-60VQoNC4OCb6_EztAejhbRHfFMWCJeLfKBhCIYURm7YG5Gvgt3H6xOIv6v/s1600/wilder.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18vKBiIOSJ-Kcee21EVMLE0SLFohbgJhIngm7CdUWHiYOCMcQWHnt6VrfyBiwuUiKuNbC23KeumUCz5RVf-60VQoNC4OCb6_EztAejhbRHfFMWCJeLfKBhCIYURm7YG5Gvgt3H6xOIv6v/s400/wilder.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716883082182849506" /></a><br /><b>The BLOODHOUND SERIES</b><div>Book One: <b><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KKYX9A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B004KKYX9A" target="_blank">Wilder's Mate</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B004KKYX9A" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /><br /></b>- 3/8/2011</div><div>Book Two: <b><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0069V8Q7S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0069V8Q7S" target="_blank">Hunter's Prey</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0069V8Q7S" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /><br /></b>- 3/6/2012</div><div>Book Three: <b>Archer's Lady</b></div><div>-Coming 7/3/2012</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Merrick's Destiny</b>: takes place between Wilder's Mate and Hunter's Prey. I loved it from start to finish. Merrick is gruff, and I think the cover is a great representation of him. I know some readers were put off by it, but I wasn't. Bloodhounds are rough, often uncivilized, barely controlled and yes, sexy, but they can't all be pretty boys. Merrick and Paralee are one of my favorite couples. He's rough, protective and old school. She's independent, tough, smart and certainly not thinking of mating with anyone, let alone a Bloodhound. The story is Western Steampunk, complete with gadgets, flying machines, magic, and action. It's a fast paced story with heart. Fans of Moira Rogers will love it, and if you haven't read the series or anything by the author, grab this as an introduction.</div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsSMpNlgV0doLi5yY7TbLEVmAqTxBeCVmEQZAuiTDnuyU4TwwaVAfnMD7Q6yFZv44LZRO3oOwzLb9IxsNXLCu-JkwQQPBW6PQLLOi2euMvqvkMPQrtkxy6Ay3FIVIGstNysaXRBoBA9gA2/s1600/archer.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 315px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsSMpNlgV0doLi5yY7TbLEVmAqTxBeCVmEQZAuiTDnuyU4TwwaVAfnMD7Q6yFZv44LZRO3oOwzLb9IxsNXLCu-JkwQQPBW6PQLLOi2euMvqvkMPQrtkxy6Ay3FIVIGstNysaXRBoBA9gA2/s400/archer.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716884333851553234" /></a><br /><center><b>For excerpts and more visit: <a href="http://www.moirarogers.com/bloodhounds" target="_blank">http://www.moirarogers.com/bloodhounds</a></b></center><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2012/03/bloodhounds-from-moira-rogers.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-5508273019088327499Wed, 18 Jan 2012 02:11:00 +00002012-01-17T21:38:19.998-05:00Aquileo | Home, Home on the Range...So, is anyone else watching the AMC show Hell on Wheels? You should be. I'll admit it started out a might slow but damn, has it made up for it. He brings her back to the railroad camp and is surprised when she decides to stay rather than go back home. Their chemistry is amazing, and I patiently waited to see what would happen between the two of them. The last of episode of the first season aired on Sunday and I have rarely seen such intense chemistry between two people on screen. I can't wait to see what happens in season two.<br /><br />If you haven't seen Hell on Wheels, try to catch the repeats on AMC before season two begins. It's a gritty and realistic historical drama. I hope we see more of this type of television show.<div><br /></div><div>~Brenda</div><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2012/01/home-home-on-range.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-7444898478340922256Tue, 03 Jan 2012 19:20:00 +00002012-01-03T17:06:56.111-05:005 star booksreviewsAquileo | My Five Star Books for 2011<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9na6y8LVyu-tf9xyn5qJ_RlqhPWFuSxT-63PU2H37iezuOBRKz6NHlZtIsxUoY9LQy5iK8HpC_sRzlssbEP9Wo8MwSkuTB8jRc0KuVl6u-1L9FTm9DSPG6Mc1sFU7poFR6r8Wyfm3qaN0/s1600/hammerdown-210.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 315px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9na6y8LVyu-tf9xyn5qJ_RlqhPWFuSxT-63PU2H37iezuOBRKz6NHlZtIsxUoY9LQy5iK8HpC_sRzlssbEP9Wo8MwSkuTB8jRc0KuVl6u-1L9FTm9DSPG6Mc1sFU7poFR6r8Wyfm3qaN0/s400/hammerdown-210.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693524317587963266" /></a>Today is the release day for <b>Hammer Down</b>, one of my favorite reads from 2011. I know, it's January 3, 2012 today, but I was lucky enough to read an ARC, and it's a hands down FIVE STAR read. Pick it up from the publisher, Samhain <a href="http://store.samhainpublishing.com/hammer-down-p-6604.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> or it's available on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WL9T4A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B005WL9T4A" target="_blank">Amazon</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B005WL9T4A" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> for the Kindle as well.<br /><br /><div><b>MORE FIVE STAR 2011 READS</b><br />I wanted to do a cool first post for 2012, but as usual I'm so busy my brain has stalled. I was on Goodreads today and joined the reading challenge for 2012. I'm going for 200 books this year, folks. To be fair, that includes novellas and short stories too, so technically it's not full length books. I don't skim books-- couldn't make myself do that if I tried-- I read them from start to finish with no peeking. Last year I really didn't start seriously putting all my reads on Goodreads until later in the winter from what I remember, so I might have missed a few books. Below are my five star reads for 2011. It doesn't mean I didn't love the other books, but these were the ones I automatically clicked that fifth star with NO hesitation.<br /><br />The list is in order of what I read first in 2011- it also includes books I read for a second time-- which I do sometimes-- mostly if it's a series that I want to visit again before the next book comes out. I tried to group the series together, but just because you don't see all the books from the series listed doesn't mean I didn't like them as much. I try to read in order, but I sometimes win a book or just grab the wrong one. I also may have read the other book or books in 2010. I buy a lot of my books, win a few, and a few more are given me for review, but my budget is fairly small so I buy when I can.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlhlAjW4bmIkGL2gsKJfG3kXSyy04ciH196nwvbIW6q01IV-zAqSY9K9cJdv6lUFAbYvF_d2jyuG1F8aJACFEX89z5dkyO9hIDhD-lDdhK8Wn31fw1mwADBVlzlLNiB5WCwufIaBFSZxPz/s1600/magicgifts.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 325px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlhlAjW4bmIkGL2gsKJfG3kXSyy04ciH196nwvbIW6q01IV-zAqSY9K9cJdv6lUFAbYvF_d2jyuG1F8aJACFEX89z5dkyO9hIDhD-lDdhK8Wn31fw1mwADBVlzlLNiB5WCwufIaBFSZxPz/s400/magicgifts.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693521748031223794" /></a>I'm starting off with the list with this story because it's the newest addition to one of my favorite series, and I've read the first 4 books three times each, and I'm sure I'll read the others at least that many times. The last book I finished in 2011 was the novella, Magic Gifts (Kate Daniels, #5.4) which the authors provided free to readers. IF it's still free you can download it here: <a href="http://www.ilona-andrews.com/" target="_blank">http://www.ilona-andrews.com/</a>. If you missed it, you'll be able to get it with Andrea's book, Gunmetal Magic, which will be coming out this summer.<br /><br /><div><b>The Kate Daniels Series</b><br />Read them again #1-5.4</div><div>All 5 Stars<br />Andrews, Ilona</div><br /><b>Enchanted No More</b><br />Owens, Robin<br /><br /><b>Ecstasy Unveiled</b><br /><b>Sin Undone</b><br />(Demonica 4 &amp; 5)<br />Ione, Larissa<br /><br /><b>Angels' Blood</b> <div>(Guild Hunter, #1)<br />Singh, Nalini<br /><br /><b>Alien Tango</b><br /><b>Alien in the Family</b><br />(Katherine "Kitty" Katt, 2 &amp; 3)<br />Koch, Gini<br /><br /><b>One Grave at a Time</b><br /><b>This Side of the Grave</b><br />(Night Huntress, 4 &amp; 5)<br />Frost, Jeaniene<br /><br /><b>Dragon Actually</b><br /><b>About A Dragon</b><br /><b>The Dragon Who Loved Me</b><br />Aiken, G.A.<br /><br /><b>The Third Kiss: Dorian's Dream</b><br />Killough-Walden, Heather<br /><br /><b>The Mane Attraction </b></div><div><b>(Pride, #3)</b><br />Laurenston, Shelly<br /><br /><b>The Red Heart of Jade </b></div><div><b>(</b>Dirk &amp; Steele, #3<b>)</b><br />Liu, Marjorie M.<br /><br /><b>The Sexorcist </b><br />(Karmic Consultants, #3)<br />Vivi Andrews<br /><br /><b>Red-Headed Stepchild </b><br />(Sabina Kane, #1)<br />Wells, Jaye<br /><br /><b>Big Bad Beast </b><br />(Pride, #6)<br />Laurenston, Shelly<br /><br /><b>Legacy Found </b></div><div>(Legacy, #3)<br />Walters, N.J.<br /><br /><b>Red Rock Pass Series</b><br />Read from beginning again...</div><div>All 5 Stars<br />Rogers, Moira<br /><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Southern Arcana Series</b></div><div>(Books 1-4 plus shorts)</div><div>Read from beginning again<br />All 5 Stars</div><div>Moira Rogers</div><div><br /><b>The Neon Graveyard </b></div><div>(Signs of the Zodiac, #6)<br />Pettersson, Vicki<br /><br /><b>Twice Bitten </b></div><div>(Chicagoland Vampires, #3)<br />Neill, Chloe<br /><br /><b>The Edge Series</b><br />(Books 1-3)<br />Andrews, Ilona<br /><br /><b>Dreamfever</b><br /><b>Shadowfever</b><br />(Fever 4 &amp; 5)<br />Moning, Karen Marie<br /><br /><b>Wild and Steamy Anthology</b><br />Meljean Brook, Jill Myles and Carolyn Crane<br /><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FR11DS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B005FR11DS" target="_blank">Free on Amazon for Kindle</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B005FR11DS" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /><br /><br /><b>Slave to Sensation</b><br /><b>Visions of Heat</b><br />(Psy-Changeling 1 &amp; 2)<br />Singh, Nalini<br /><br /><b>Druid's Glen Series 1-3</b><br />Grant, Donna<br /><br /><b>Awaken the Highland Warrior </b></div><div>(Connor Clan, #1)<br />Clenney, Anita<br /><br /><b>The Irish Warrior</b><br />Kennedy, Kris<br /><br /><b>Black Gold </b></div><div>(Takhini Wolves, #1)<br />Arend, Vivian<br /><br /><b>Entangled Anthology</b><br />Misc. Vivi has a way of combining humor, emotion, adventure and romance that makes her readers fall in love with the characters. I knew her post-apocalyptic story would be amazing. I was thrilled when she said she had the time to answer a few questions. Below is our interview, and the post before it has my thoughts on <strong>Reawakening Eden</strong> and all the details.<br /><br /><strong>Brenda</strong>: I finished <strong>Reawakening Eden</strong> and truly enjoyed the characters and the story. I had a few questions for you on the world and the characters. I promise they won't be too painful:)<br /><br /><em>Zombies are all the rage right now, as is steampunk, cyberpunk and everything in between. I loved that your story took a more realistic scenario where an epidemic kills off much of the world's population. Your characters aren't fighting zombies, but sadly their fellow humans are almost as dangerous. Did you consider another option, or did you like the human vs. human plot all along?</em><br /><br /><strong>Vivi</strong>: I love a brain-devouring zombie as much as the next girl and I'm sure I'll be tempted to write a feel-good zombie apocalypse book at some point, but for Reawakening Eden the idea was always to play with a realistic speculation on what a post-apocalyptic world could be. What fascinated me about rebuilding the world when most of the population has been wiped out was the way our memory of what society should be would bump up against what our world had become. What happens when the rules are thrown out the window and we're starting from scratch, but still remember how things used to be? In Reawakening Eden, what happened was a dysfunctional commune in what had once been Seattle... and a heroine whose idea of motherhood has been modified to include automatic weapons.<br /><br /><strong>Brenda</strong>: <em>I don't want to give any spoilers, but Connor is a no nonsense kind of guy. I loved his response to the bad guys. Did you have an inspiration for him?</em><br /><br /><strong>Vivi</strong>: He's the strong, silent action hero to the core. My editor said she always pictured Chris Hemsworth when she was reading Connor, but I'd mentally cast him as a Sam Worthington. Definitely more likely to grunt than launch into a soliloquy, but the man knows how to get the job done. Who needs words?<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNRD2r7s7R6VE_EZmoL5oixEf9EC6kv62PsIr-M9PsP1mIKFDX7ZURpXFyCTsMv2m4HBISzBQTcHC9X2IV-yO_sgJ1LcXBDUURiiIYA-rR4WdQcWVPD-_b3qrrRLkffvgRnzSYbkhae74e/s1600/sam.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 200px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685808444222946242" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNRD2r7s7R6VE_EZmoL5oixEf9EC6kv62PsIr-M9PsP1mIKFDX7ZURpXFyCTsMv2m4HBISzBQTcHC9X2IV-yO_sgJ1LcXBDUURiiIYA-rR4WdQcWVPD-_b3qrrRLkffvgRnzSYbkhae74e/s400/sam.jpg" /></a><br /><strong>Brenda</strong>: <em>Will we see any more stories from this world?</em><br /><br /><strong>Vivi</strong>: I don't have immediate plans to write more stories in this particular post-apocalyptic world, but I can't give an absolute no because as soon as I do a honey of an idea will pop into my head and I won't be able to resist a little sequel action.<br /><br /><strong>Brenda</strong>: <em>Did you listen to any certain music while you were plotting and writing Reawakening Eden?</em><br /><br /><strong>Vivi</strong>: I don't often pull inspiration from music. I did have multiple sing-alongs to The End of the World as We Know It by REM, but it was more for dancing around the living room breaks than actual plotting or writing time.<br /><br /><strong>Brenda</strong>: <em>Was there a certain part of the story you struggled with in some way? What is your favorite part of the story?</em><br /><br /><strong>Vivi</strong>: I struggled a bit with end, actually. Trying not to give anything away, but I worried about my crazy cult leader feeling authentic and not over-playing his part. My favorite part is definitely the relationship between Eden and the kids, Lucas and Hannah Rose. I tend to fall in love with a certain line in each of my books and it echoes around in my head making me smile. For <strong>Reawakening Eden</strong> it was "Not now, baby. Momma's holding a gun on the nice man." That scene is my hands down favorite. Eden and Connor testing one another out for the first time.<br /><br /><strong>Brenda</strong>: I agree because I loved that scene too! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I loved Reawakening Eden and will be reading it again and again, especially now that I can picture Sam Worthington as Connor. *swoon*</div><br />To read an except from Reawakening Eden, and find out more visit Vivi's website:<br /><a href="http://www.viviandrews.com/eden.html" target="_blank">http://www.viviandrews.com/eden.html</a><br /><br />~Brenda</div><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2011/12/interview-with-author-vivi-andrews.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-5183282615989537602Wed, 14 Dec 2011 18:00:00 +00002011-12-14T14:56:11.573-05:00paranormal romanceAquileo | Reawakening Eden: Post-apocalyptic Love<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihy9NLiRxNWVf9xjUbjxAqXqnL4WngniH8hyD5fpUzSEZ46lNW6Uai1OdeaPNfE3TdRc8A_EGj_kJ5Az3UsKGH7zQcRbmkiTyHOha-jzxsudq7DTdjVSpNZ9D9I8uHHqnb1Z613sb5wXIC/s1600/eden.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 200px; height: 300px; float: left; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685858224065542994" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihy9NLiRxNWVf9xjUbjxAqXqnL4WngniH8hyD5fpUzSEZ46lNW6Uai1OdeaPNfE3TdRc8A_EGj_kJ5Az3UsKGH7zQcRbmkiTyHOha-jzxsudq7DTdjVSpNZ9D9I8uHHqnb1Z613sb5wXIC/s400/eden.jpg" /></a><strong><span style="color: rgb(153, 51, 0);">Reawakening Eden<br /></span></strong>Author: Vivi Andrews<br />File Size: 219 KB<br />Publisher: Samhain Publishing, Ltd.<br />Released: November 22, 2011<br /><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005IHLJXC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B005IHLJXC" target="_blank">Available for Kindle</a><img style="margin: 0px !important; border: currentColor !important;" border="0" alt="" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B005IHLJXC" width="1" height="1" /><br /><br /><strong>SUMMARY</strong>: <span style="color: rgb(153, 51, 0);">When life is a struggle, love is the ultimate luxury.<br /></span><br /><em>Librarian Eden Fairfax knows exactly where to find books about survival. I loved it from start to finish. This was a great read for so many reasons. The story is about survival, both physical and emotional, but it's also about trust and a willingness to think beyond one day at a time. I really loved the characters and the world. Fans of paranormal romance will love her story, but so will fans of romance in general. It was a feel good story, as well as a thought provoking one, as the reader is able to put themselves in the heroine's place.<br /><br />Vivi Andrews packs so much emotion into her stories that she had me rooting for the heroine and her kids in the first few paragraphs. The hero, Connor, is a man of few words, but his actions speak louder than any words ever could. I loved the interaction between the two of them, but also between him and the kids. <strong>Reawakening Eden </strong>has humor, romance, suspense and action. It's a fast paced read that takes the reader along on a adventure, keeps them on the edge of their seats and has an ending that makes us want to stand up and cheer.<br /><br />To learn more about Reawakening Eden go to Vivi's website here:<br /><a href="http://www.viviandrews.com/eden.html" target="_blank">http://www.viviandrews.com/eden.html</a><br /><br />It's available for the Kindle <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005IHLJXC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B005IHLJXC" target="_blank">HERE.</a><img style="margin: 0px !important; border: currentColor !important;" border="0" alt="" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B005IHLJXC" width="1" height="1" /> and from <a href="http://store.samhainpublishing.com/reawakening-eden-p-6548.html" target="_blank">Samhain Publishing</a>.<br /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2011/12/reawakening-eden-post-apocalyptic-love.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8697961819353881347.post-6430382543162921368Tue, 29 Nov 2011 05:00:00 +00002011-11-29T01:10:12.517-05:00author interviewAquileo | Moira Rogers: Addictive Apocalyptic Adventure<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLokyjOyBQ1jHb7flxcATKTqEFNqbfJLb3i3FGqHL0b1hJlNnBfPn3R8HMiu7GQwoNNQBtCDvSTHk919afDNYjTRej_zaJtNdYxbpUYOTmnBj3KZQoi5GioZzHkZqHByVGedIO44aF4KNF/s1600/demon-bait.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680251947304058738" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLokyjOyBQ1jHb7flxcATKTqEFNqbfJLb3i3FGqHL0b1hJlNnBfPn3R8HMiu7GQwoNNQBtCDvSTHk919afDNYjTRej_zaJtNdYxbpUYOTmnBj3KZQoi5GioZzHkZqHByVGedIO44aF4KNF/s400/demon-bait.jpg" border="0" /></a>I was fortunate and extremely giddy to receive ARC's of the first two stories in the <strong><span style="color:#993300;">Children of the Undying</span></strong> series. I'm going to admit that I was a bit scared. What if I didn't like the series? This is a new project with no shifters. No. Shifters. So, I started <strong><span style="color:#000099;">Demon Bait </span></strong>slowly, paying attention to detail, and before I even realized it I didn't miss the shifters. Not one little bit. I was focused on the new world, the new characters and I loved it.<br /><br />After I finished <strong><span style="color:#000099;">Demon Bait</span></strong> I contacted the authors about an interview, and they sent me the ARC for <strong>Hammerdown</strong> to read first. While I loved <strong><span style="color:#000099;">Demon Bait</span></strong>, <strong>Hammerdown</strong> blew me away. As soon as I finished it, I sent off a few questions, which are below. After the interview I have my thoughts and more information on the series.<br /><br /><strong>BRENDA</strong>: Howdy Bree and Donna! I just finished the ARC's of Demon Bait and Hammer Down. My mind is reeling from thinking about this new world you guys have created. It's fascinating, kick ass and heartbreaking all at the same time.<br /><br /><em>How long did it take you to get the details of this new world worked out? Did it build slowly, or was it one of those mind explosion type of deals?<br /><br /></em><span style="color:#990000;"><strong>BREE</strong></span>: <span style="color:#990000;">This one certainly built slowly. We actually spent a lot of 2009 slowly planning it. We knew we wanted demons walking the earth and to mix an apocalypse with a high-tech dystopian future, but we spent a lot of time putting all the pieces together and then developing our characters.<br /><br /></span><strong>BRENDA</strong>: <em>This is a darker world where the characters interact virtually as well as skin to skin. Did you have moments of "will the reader get that?" I thought you did a wonderful job making a complex world that was still easy to understand. Was that difficult?<br /><br /></em><strong><span style="color:#990000;">BREE</span></strong>: <span style="color:#990000;">There are always moments where you have to worry if the readers will get something, especially when writing speculative fiction. World building is a tricky thing, and too much or too little can ruin a book. Of course, how much is the right amount is always in the eye of the reader. As a reader, I’d rather be confused than bored, so I write that way and hope readers will trust that I know what’s going on and will get them there eventually. (And in a series, not always in the first book!)<br /><br /></span><strong>BRENDA</strong>: <em>This world is considered cyberpunk? I've been trying to learn more about the different genre categories and it can get confusing. I'm guessing this would be paranormal romance with a cyberpunk theme?<br /><br /></em><strong><span style="color:#990000;">BREE</span></strong>:<span style="color:#990000;"> Your guess is as good as mine! No, really. Donna and I rarely write books that fit cleanly into genres, and are fortunate enough to have an editor and readers who don’t mind.<br /><br />As for these books, I’d say they’re apocalyptic romance first. Paranormal, definitely, though with ambiguous magic born of angels and demons, not our usual brand of wizards and shapeshifters. The cyberpunk is also a theme, but a slightly smaller one.<br /></span><br /><strong>BRENDA</strong>: <em>Okay, be honest. Did you guys come to blows over this series? I picture it something like this:<br /><br /></em><span style="color:#000099;">"OMG, enough with the virtual sex. I want skin to skin!!!"<br /><br />"You know nothing. Virtual is the way to go."<br /><br />"Don't make me throw this flash drive at you again!"<br /><br />"Flash drive? I'll throw this fricking hard drive at your head!"<br /></span><br /><em>Perhaps this is just how things go in my head, so let's hear what it was really like. *snicker*<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUFQDSL0fSvXNu2rwMCMT-K2MULqsJFPWb0S3ACYoweo-suxNgJodMP57N8RIYFLqSeGAcBAVIMYpKOewGrMKSEZ3zihSnIzmKIg2zzw8d7TMDNXdY6WG0qOHvkQC1wG_EIuJjfBnQABWW/s1600/hammerdown-210.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680264989827308066" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 210px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 315px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUFQDSL0fSvXNu2rwMCMT-K2MULqsJFPWb0S3ACYoweo-suxNgJodMP57N8RIYFLqSeGAcBAVIMYpKOewGrMKSEZ3zihSnIzmKIg2zzw8d7TMDNXdY6WG0qOHvkQC1wG_EIuJjfBnQABWW/s400/hammerdown-210.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></em><strong><span style="color:#990000;">DONNA</span></strong>: <span style="color:#990000;">Actually? There are characters in this universe for whom virtual sex is awesome. Others can take it or leave it (like Marci). And still others, like Devi and Zel, want the sweaty real thing. So it’s like...asking which flavor ice cream is best. LOL<br /><br /></span><strong>BRENDA</strong>: <em>Thanks for taking the time to chat. Fifty years after a demon apocalypse devastated the world, summoners still bear the bulk of the blame. Marci lives in secret, hiding the gifts that could cost her a secure spot in one of humanity’s underground cities, and access to their virtual world. After all, her chances of avoiding the genetic-testing lotto are better than her chances of surviving topside.<br /><br />The bastard son of a terrifying incubus, lust heats Gabe’s blood and sex fuels his magic. Innate charm and charisma help him navigate the cultural gap between the outcast town he calls home and the human settlements he infiltrates for trade. His latest mission nets him an unexpected asset—a summoner strong enough to soothe his darkest needs.<br /><br />Trust a half demon, especially one who uses a lockdown to trap them together? Not in this lifetime. Yet Marci can’t resist Gabe’s offer to see her safely to a selective outcast settlement where she can live without fear. The journey alone is as dangerous as the way Gabe makes her heart race, but it could be her one hope of a real life. If only she could be sure Gabe’s telling her the whole truth…<br /><br /><strong>Warning</strong>: Contains a virtual world where humans flee to escape the demon-infested earth, a dangerously seductive half demon with sex magic to burn and a network-hacking summoner brave enough to make herself vulnerable to him.<br /><br /></span></em>I will start out by saying I'm a fangirl of Moira Rogers and their shifter stories. I buy them automatically as soon as they come out. Reading about Demon Bait beforehand I was fascinated and a bit apprehensive. Would I love it as much as their other stories? I need not have worried because it was amazing.<br /><br />How to describe <strong><span style="color:#990000;">Demon Bait</span></strong>? It's sci fi, post-apocalyptic, paranormal romance. It's about freedom, facing fears, being true to yourself and trust. The world in <strong><span style="color:#990000;">Demon Bait</span></strong> is complex, but not overwhelming. It's a story that satisfied my inner sci fi geek girl, while giving me steamy romance and amazing sexual tension.<br /><br />Marci, the heroine, is a techie who hides her inner magic, making herself blend into the woodwork as much as possible in order to stay underground where she's safe from the demons that lurk above ground waiting to kill and control humans. She may be physically safe underground but is she truly living? She can experience life in her society's virtual world where sex is safe and nothing can hurt you, but is that enough?<br /><br />Gabe, our hero is half demon and he oozes sexuality even when he tries to control it. He immediately latches on to what Marci is hiding, and craves her magic. He holds back, trying to give her choices, but is afraid to trust she will do what he needs her to without manipulation.<br /><br />The chemistry between Marci and Gabe is explosive, but it's the deeper issues that kept me reading until early morning. It's a story I'll read again and again.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfeBzfra0RhChmG7KdwqTr6a_I5nzoAYfr3db8_tZJku8v-9WkN9qxh020lByofkgA7msk18sINaTQBPpBSWyu45NNykQZnHyGG-Y1efX159NRPMKgXDmFp6URTpbQ4h6SNeeQFS-KbeT3/s1600/hammerdown-210.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680290419787536370" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 210px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 315px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfeBzfra0RhChmG7KdwqTr6a_I5nzoAYfr3db8_tZJku8v-9WkN9qxh020lByofkgA7msk18sINaTQBPpBSWyu45NNykQZnHyGG-Y1efX159NRPMKgXDmFp6URTpbQ4h6SNeeQFS-KbeT3/s400/hammerdown-210.jpg" border="0" /></a><strong><span style="font-size:130%;color:#663300;">Hammer Down </span></strong><br />Children of the Undying, #2<br />Author: Moira Rogers<br />File Size: 492 KB<br />Publisher: Samhain Publishing, Ltd.<br />Release Date:January 3, 2012<br /><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WL9T4A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=seedsofknowledbo&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399373&amp;creativeASIN=B005WL9T4A">Pre order for the Kindle</a><img style="BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; MARGIN: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none" height="1" alt="" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=seedsofknowledbo&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B005WL9T4A&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399373" width="1" border="0" /><br /><br /><strong>SUMMARY</strong>: <em><span style="color:#663300;">When hell reigns on earth, love is a luxury they can't afford. While the tattered remains of humanity huddle underground, hiding in their virtual world, Devi prefers living topside, making dangerous hauls through the demon-infested wasteland earth has become. The wealth that comes from smuggling supplies to those shunned as summoner-born or demon-touched doesn’t hurt, either.<br /><br />The man she meets to arrange one of those under-the-table hauls is complicated…and handsome as hell. Literally. A glimpse of the predator beneath his silver gaze and she’s tempted to break her cardinal rule: never mix business with pleasure.<br /><br />Zel’s first look at the wild-haired hauler threatens to distract him from his mission—and reminds him just how long it’s been since he got laid. As the leader of an outcast settlement, he can’t afford to trust too easily. Devi’s got a reputation for running a tight, disciplined crew, but her very willingness to deal with him means she has something to hide. Not to mention a hot, tempting package like her could be the cleverest trap his enemies have ever set.<br /><br /><strong>Warning</strong>: Contains demon bars, virtual (and literal) fights to the death, forbidden love, renegade AIs, a badass truck-driving heroine who will do anything to protect her crew and the half-demon warrior who will move heaven and hell to make her his.<br /><br /></span></em><strong>Demon Bait</strong> was a novella and the first in this series. <span style="color:#663300;"><strong>Hammer Down</strong></span> is the second in the series, and a full length novel. In some ways <strong>Demon Bait</strong> was the appetizer, still amazing on it's own, but <strong><span style="color:#663300;">Hammer Down</span></strong> is the mouth watering entree. We learn about those characters we got a peek of in the first story, plus details are revealed about the world and it's people. Twists and turns abound. The story revolves around Zel and Devi, two strong, stubborn, intelligent and self-sacrificing leaders who don't think they need a partner. How much can people give without taking something in return for themselves? How much responsibility is too much? We learn much about this from Zel and Devi. I truly enjoyed the interaction between the couple from beginning to end.<br /><br />The authors give us emotional, steamy romance mixed with post-Apocalyptic adventure, cyberpunk virtual intrigue, kick ass fight scenes and plot twists.<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#663333;">Hammer Down</span></strong> will be released in January, and it's worth the wait!<br /><br />Learn more about both stories and the series on the authors' website:<br /><a href="http://www.moirarogers.com/children-of-the-undying/">http://www.moirarogers.com/children-of-the-undying/</a><div class="blogger-post-footer">Copyright © 2009-2014 Brenda Hyde Permission MUST be granted before using any content.</div>http://moonsanity.blogspot.com/2011/11/new-series-review-children-of-undying.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Brenda Hyde)0
