For more than five decades, Gabriele Stötzer has been grappling with questions of justice, gender and self-determination. Her own body often plays a central role in her work – not as an object, but as a site of resistance and feminist self-assertion. Dabei sein und nicht schweigen (Showing up and Not Remaining Silent) is the artist’s largest institutional solo exhibition to date. Gropius Bau, 19.6.-6.12.

Chapters from the beginnings of video art explores video art in former Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary from the late 1960s to the mid-1990s, including experimental film, recordings of performances and actions, early animations, video magazines, installations and sculptures. Hamburg
FIRE. From the Cosmos to the Commons presents a series of public art commissions dealing with the political, ecological, and spiritual reading of fire in the times of political urgency. St. Nikolai Memorial, 21.6. – 21.9.
Prague
The fourth edition of the Biennale Matter of Art presents art as a necessity that our society cannot do without. The exhibition and accompanying program, subtitled Necessary Wishes, takes place from June 12 to September 13, at the National Gallery Prague – Trade Fair Palace, GAMPA – City Gallery Pardubice, and the Tusculum Prague art center.
Tromsø
The commemorative exhibition For History, Change Position celebrates the artistic activity that was enabled through the porous Norwegian-Russian border between 1990 until 2022. It introduces the Border Art Archive, which collects works and curatorial projects from this period and assembles them into an online archive. Tromsø Kunstforeningen, 30.5.– 3.8.
Vienna
Lebt und arbeitet in Wien. Contemporary Art from Vienna, Kunsthalle Wien, 1.5.–26.10. Sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, performance and video by over 50 artists will be presented within an exhibition that focuses on new commissions and works that have not previously been exhibited in Vienna. The exhibition takes its title from a survey first presented at the Kunsthalle in 2000, continuing and developing a format that seeks to offer a perspective on the dynamic, transnational and culturally diverse communities of artists living and working in Vienna today.

"Fragments of Tactical Media begins with a memory: the night Indymedia went live during the 1999 Seattle WTO protests. Folding tables, cheap gear, shaky clips, and a sense that the internet itself was a crack in the system, a space you could move through on your own terms. Tactical media was about finding weak points in existing institutions, using the tools at hand and striking at the right moment. Today, the crack has been paved over. We have moved from the network to the feed. A single post can reach millions, but only on the platform’s terms. Algorithms set the pace, surveillance sets the limits, and extraction pays the bills.
The internet described in this book is no longer a free space or a place to hide and organize; rather, it is a landscape of isolated, fully surveilled islands. So, what is tactical media in the here and now? What can activists do with media today? This collection brings together strategies, reflections, experiences, and tools that try to move between islands and build archipelagos. Across community radio and DIY TV, meme ecologies, mesh networks, anti-scroll tactics, livestreams from war zones, and knitting workshops to better understand infrastructure, its contributions map what tactical media looks like after the feed: smaller, stranger, more local, and often slower, but still incisive. Ni dogma, ni vibe. Not a promise of a single solution, but a set of fragments to help connect, endure, and act."

This text can support you when starting a permacomputing collective. It isn’t a strict recipe but more of a loose framework that can be freely modified to suit local tastes and conditions. Many actions are cyclical and can be seen as opportunities to revisit or re-purpose later."

"Large Language Models have, in a sense, created the ultimate (un)ideal readers for electronic libraries. By treating e-libraries as vast training datasets, algorithmic scraping has become both the fulfilment and the ruin of a core dream in public library culture: that access to books should be free and unlimited for all. AI systems read everything and nothing, at inhuman scale and speed — extracting patterns and selling what they pretend to know as consequence. What once symbolised a democratic promise now risks feeding extractive logics that empty reading of meaning.
So, why should we care — and if we do, how can we put that care into practice?
The ‘Careful VS Careless’ exhibition centres a new conversation between custodians of radical public libraries, known as ‘shadow libraries’. Organised around that conversation are a mixture of symbolic and tactical gestures that help people to think and act carefully in relation to the infrastructures of public knowledge systems."
