Hifito 1.3 released

There’s a new version of Hifito available. This time there is a new feature — you can set up Hifito to toggle the visibility of hidden files or extensions by double clicking the tray icon. This functionality was suggested by Lautrepay. He also discovered a bug in Hifito (the balloons did not pop up on Windows XP), which is now fixed. Thanks for your help, Lautrepay and enjoy the new version.

For those of you, who haven’t noticed — since version 1.2 there is also a portable variant of Hifito available. It saves its settings in an INI file instead of the registry, so you can put it on a USB stick and the settings will be preserved between multiple computers.

ScanDisk Screensaver

Inspired by the  Sysinternals Blusescreen Screensaver, I created something similar — a screensaver, which imitates the classic Microsoft ScanDisk tool known from Windows 98.

As usual, the project is released under GPL and available for download from Sourceforge. You can find the project page here.

Hifito 1.2 is here

Hifito version 1.2 has been released. Although there are no big changes in the interface, there were some bug fixes and stability improvements. Also, the installer was updated — now it has a nice more modern look.

StayAwake project added on BrotherSoft site

StayAwake 1.0 released

StayAwake 1.0 is here. I think I fixed all the errors from the previous release were fixed, so this one is a stable version, not a beta. I also added an automated installer (and uninstaller).

StayAwake

I created another tray application for Windows. It’s called StayAwake and it allows to temporarily disable the screensaver (or anything else that is launched automatically when the computer is idle).

To be honest, I wasn’t the first one who came up with this idea. There already is another application called Mouse Jiggler — it also disables the screensaver and I even used it sometimes, but there was one thing that annoyed me about it. Mouse Jiggler is written in C# and requires the .NET framework. StayAwake is written in C using pure Windows API and has no dependencies. The only thing you need to run it is a PC with Windows. It also doesn’t load a lot of DLLs, so it uses much less memory (usually below 1MB).

Hifito page created

Hifito IconRight now I have only one open source project, Hifito. I wrote it a few months ago and released it on Sourceforge. Since then there have been a few thousand downloads and some websites decided to publish articles about Hifito. The tool even received some awards. Surprised by this popularity I decided to create a special page on this blog for Hifito — you can find it here.
