"Because we couldn't be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own
desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds.
The World Eaters were not that weapon. We've all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding
blood, and we've all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not
the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can
be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame
with the Butcher's Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls."

"The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name
themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf
doesn't behave that way. Only a dog does."
"That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

- Eighth Captain Khârn,
from his unpublished treatise The Eighteen Legions

"Warriors Russ, not soldiers. Warriors who care nothing and have nothing to loose. That is the gift of the nails."

A practiced pit fighter, the Beast rose to a leadership position within the legion through brutalising his brothers in the pit. A reflection of a legion who esteem martial prowess over tactical proficiency.

One of the heavy artillery units available to the Legiones Astartes is the Medusa, which carries a short ranged but extremely powerful siege mortar capable of breaching all but the thickest walls. When a breach has been secured, the Medusa will then rumble forwards to support the assault, levelling buildings with a single shell.

With the upcoming release of Inferno - the Forge world book detailing the fall of Prospero, I knew I had to try painting that gorgeous ruby red scheme.

Those who hold the truth do so lightly, for it is a fragile thing, easily broken.

"All crows are liars."

This is the second exclusive event miniature I created for Takaan Reva Drowned in Flames. Since reading about the Raven Guard I have wanted to create an elite shock force still allied to the Warmaster. Precursors to the Night Lords, the Warmaster used the Raven Guard to sow fear and decent into populations. The Crow is a remnant of that time, a being who enjoyed the killing a little too much.

The crow is a harbinger of disaster, and I loved the idea of this marine being in the scouting elements to locate Takaan Reva, silently having in the void after real space translation, just watching this planet full of life that he was going to murder. It is unknown whether he ran his quarry (Ghost) down or continues the hunt for him still across a galaxy ablaze with civil war.

"A seeker of great and terrible things, a betrayed son and father to murdered children."

This piece was created for the Imperial Truth podcast event Takaan Reva Drowned in Flames. This mysterious fellow had been enlisted by the Sigilite for the retrieval of a certain artefact on the world being annihilated in the crossfire between the warring legions. It is unknown whether he secured his objective, escaped, or was killed by the Warmaster's agent; The Crow.

This is a commissioned piece for the Forge World event only Librarian miniature. If you'd like to learn how to paint this Night Lord's scheme (including tips on how to tackle those tricky lightning strikes) from the comfort of your own home have a look at my series of tuition courses available online.
