Terra's Birthday Party

The day after Terra's birthday we had a party for her.

For her cake she asked for a "really big, tall", purple cake with the purple and blue sixlets, a crown and a purple number 4:

Terra decided to have a swim party, since it was June and we lived in a house with a pool, it just made sense.

Our traditional "birthday child picks out breakfast"

Terra went for Star Wars cereal. Everyone agreed it didn't taste very good. Bu tit was sugary and fun because there were marshmallows shaped like Star Wars stuff

Then we went to McDonald's for lunch (we end up with a lot of junk food on birthdays)

Of course we got treats for her birthday while we were there.

A video here where the girls spent a bunch of time cleaning the floor and chairs with the hand wipes in the kids area.

Terra at four was fun and dramatic.

She had a WILD imagination. One morning I asked her if she had put her pajamas away and she replied "yes, I smashed them down into a cupcake and then I ate them" She seemed to always have some extremely creative/imaginative answer for everything.

Or nearly every morning she would tell us how she used her 'powers' during the night... things like a midnight trip to Disneyland, visiting the moon, watching a movie in the desert, growing taller than a house, etc.

The downside of the imagination, is that she would have crazy nightmares. Every night. Sometimes three or four times a night. She needed lots of love to calm down and not feel scared anymore. We both lost a lot of sleep during this phase.

She had the cutest chipmunk voice and talked non-stop.

We had gone to a Star Wars day at the library out in Surprise, and shortly after we moved in with my parents the library close to their house had a Star Wars day as well.

Furniture Stores

For a couple of months my kids were obsessed with furniture stores.

We would go to the mall and they would play in the play place for a bit, but they were excited to go and play on the escalators and see the furniture in the department stores as much as anything else.

If we needed to just get otu of the house, sometimes we just went to look at furniture stores.

We do dates with our kids and Parker chose to go to look at furniture stores for one of his mommy-dates with me.

Sometimes it's the little things in life, right?

County Fair

In April 2015 we packed up our house.

After living in Surprise for 8 years (and loving it!) we moved into my parents (and eventually Jason's parents) before moving to Laveen in a new home.

We moved for a little more space and to be much closer to Jason's work.

We also just dipped them the traditional way, put on stickers and created reactions with baking soda and colored vinegar to color the eggs.

For a little while the kids loved dropping the bean bags down from the loft to the bottom of the stairs do they could jump on them.

Parker's Other Birthday

Parker took quite a while to decide what he wanted to do for his 7th birthday.

We has a small party with cake and stuff back with his actual birthday.

Then at the beginning of April we finally finished his birthday celebration by going bowling and playing at the arcade.

Corin grabbed a container of oatmeal and dumped it out on the floor.

I managed to stay calm and I realized that it was already a mes so they might as well have fun with it.

The kids played with the oatmeal on the floor for a while and then helped to sweep it up when they were done,

Day 3: Tucson Science Center

For our last day in Tucson we went to the Tucson Science Center, which is part of UofA, before heading home to Surprise.

The kids enjoyed the trip overall, but Terra very clearly had a favorite part. The free (junk food) breakfast at the hotel

Day 2: International Wildlife Museum

after we went to the Air and Space museum, we took a break for lunch and then headed to the International Wildlife Museum right before dinner.

I seriously loved this place.

It was all dead animals, but it was pretty hands on, and it had tons of displays that compared things from one animals to others .

There was a room full of horns and antlers, and a display about 50 different bird eggs, and something showing eyes of a bunch of different animals so you could see all the different types at once. Such a cool way to compare and contrast.

Day 2 Air and Space Museum

After going into Colossal cave we went to the Pima Air and Space museum.

Day 2 Colossal Cave

On our second day in Tucson we visited Colossal Cave.

But first we showered.

Jason wrapped the hand towel around Corin after he got out and I thought it was so cute!

We drove out to Colossal cave and we walked around the grounds nearby for a bit first.

The kids found this cat and wanted to keep it:

It was cool, the kids liked it for the most part.

Except poor Aria she kept bouncing around and trying to swing from the rails and such. Unfortunately some of the rails were next to huge drop-offs in the cave so we had to keep her "reigned-in" and she did not enjoy that.

And Corin was ready for a nap by the end.

But it was fun to go inside a cave and walk though.

A few months later we learned about animals with the girls and they definitely remembered going through the cave when we talked about animals that lived in caves.

Biosphere

Last February we took a short trip down to Tucson for a few days.

On the first day we went to Biosphere 2.

Terra wanted to carry my diaper bag. It's as big as her.

The kids loved this hands on activity about the water cycle while we waited for our tour:

They could pump balls up the tube on the left and they would fall own through the water cycle via the PVC pipe things on the wall.

Then the tour began

In the desert biome

In one of the "lungs" of the biosphere.

To deal with Air expanding and contracting as it cooled or heated they have these expanding rooms, where the ceiling is haning with weights so it will go up or down depending on the air pressure.

The ceiling dropped as we all went outside, and it was like walking through a storm to get out the door as the air was pushed out with us from the weight of the ceiling.

Our guide was a bit too talkative, so our tour took a lot longer than they had said and the kids got bored in a few rooms, but it was still cool, we enjoyed it overall and we had fun and learned a lot.

Parker Lost a Tooth

Our first lost tooth!

It had been loose for quite awhile, but Parker isn't big on wiggling his teeth, so it came out slowly.

The next one came out just a couple weeks later.
