GLOUCESTER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO VESSEL CAPSIZING

Gloucester Fire Department was first on scene followed by Gloucester Police Department, the Gloucester Harbormaster’s Office, and the United States Coast Guard when responding to a report of an overturned vessel off Ships Bell Road.

Following initial reports that two to three individuals were in the water, the Gloucester Fire Department arrived and confirmed that all occupants had safely made it to shore. They confirmed that no one remained in the water and immediately began assessing the individuals and providing necessary medical care.

The Gloucester Harbormaster’s Office and the United States Coast Guard assumed responsibility for the scene upon arrival and remained on location to coordinate the salvage of the sunken vessel. The Gloucester Fire Department cleared the scene shortly thereafter.

The prompt notification of the Gloucester Fire Department, Gloucester Harbormaster’s Office, Gloucester Police Department, and the United States Coast Guard, allowed emergency resources to be dispatched quickly. Responding agencies arrived within minutes of the initial call.

“This incident is a good reminder of how quickly a situation on the water can become serious,” said Gloucester Fire Chief Eric Smith. “Fortunately, everyone involved was able to make it safely to shore. The quick notification and coordinated response between the Gloucester Fire Department, Gloucester Police Department, Gloucester Harbormaster’s Office, and United States Coast Guard allowed us to assess the situation, provide medical assistance, and ensure the appropriate resources were on scene. We’re grateful that this incident had a positive outcome.”

Join the Rockport Legion Band for our seventh free concert of our 93rd summer concert series.
