It's hard to describe all the feelings and emotions that our family went through these past two years... When we moved to Maine Rowan had just recently been stillborn and it was a bit rough at the beginning. Dennen has been non-stop busy these past two years. People told us that PA School was intense and fast, but it was hard to imagine until we were going through it. Some people explained it like this, "it's like turning on a fire-hydrant and trying to drink from it." I'd say that was pretty much true. Dennen worked extremely hard and I am so, so, proud of him!
My parents and Dennen's parents and Dylan came out for his graduation. We stayed at a house they rented in Freeport, Maine. It was on a peninsula that jutted out into the Atlantic Ocean. It was rad! Finn had a ton of fun beach combing and adventuring. It was fun to spend some final time in southern Maine. We were also able to celebrate Finn's 4th birthday together.
Although at times PA School was difficult, it was such a growing and learning experience for our family. We met some lifelong friends, and grew to love Maine so much! We experienced two Maine winters (coldest cold I have ever experienced). Went on adventures to Acadia, Moosehead Lake, Camden Hills, Beaches, and more. To say that we miss Maine would be an understatement.
Here are some pictures from Dennen's white coat ceremony last week. I think he looks pretty dashing! Afterwards, Dennen's mom took us out to eat. We love it when people visit, and it was so nice to have her here. Finn still says "Oma" whenever he plays with a toy or book she brought him. He also tried to stow away in her suit case... I'll post those pictures soon. They're pretty funny!
During Dennen's time off, we were able to go see the 'Bush Compound' in Kennebunkport. Not really... But it was a pretty cool little coastal town! We drove down on a Sunday and just walked around the town. There was a kid's store/boutique that I loved! Although, way too pricey.
We also stopped in Biddeford. Last semester, Dennen had an anatomy class there twice a week. We were able to go in one of the buildings and let Finn look at the fish. It had recently rained and was quite muggy. Because of that, it equaled an insane amount of mosquitoes outside, so we didn't spend too much time walking around.
During Dennen's time off we've been going to the beach pretty regularly. These first pictures are of Higgins Beach. The waves don't get too big in Maine, but there are people that surf at this beach because the waves are actually big enough. Finn, as always, enjoyed digging in the sand, rolling in the sand, and eating the sand (well, maybe he didn't enjoy that).
This second group of pictures was taken at Ferry Beach in Scarborough. Usually it costs $10 to get in because it is a state park, but after 5pm it's free! Finn and Dennen had a good time collecting hermit crabs and putting them in Finn's toys. As you can see, the hermit crab supply was not lacking at this beach. P.S. the picture of Finn and me below makes me laugh. Just look at Finn.
Dennen had an anatomy test yesterday, so after he took it we thought it would be nice for him to have a little reward (aka a couple hours off from studying to do some fun stuff). First we went to a splash park that had a playground next to it. And no, I didn't plan for my skirt and Finn's hat to match the playground.
Next we went to downtown Portland to get a slice of pizza from Otto's Pizza. Apparently, Otto's is well known and highly rated when it comes to restaurants in Portland. They have Italian style pizza (thin crust), which we both really like. Portland's downtown is awesome. It is small enough to not be overwhelming, and also very safe.
We had a good time, and it was nice to spend some quality time with Dennen!
As you've probably noticed, I've been making a lot of changes to our blog lately. A new name, and a new design. I'm happy with it so far! But still have a bit more to work on. It's harder than it looks.
Here are some pictures of Finn and Dennen that I thought I'd share. Finn has so much fun whenever Dennen comes home from school. All the rooms are connected in our place, so Finn just chases Dennen around and around in circles. He loves it and squeals with delight! I'm happy that I have a husband who is willing to spend time with his son. Although he is very busy with school, I know where his priorities are.
A couple of days ago we hit up the beach again with some of our pals. How can we not when it is so stinkin' close?! It was later in the day, so it wasn't as warm as it could have been. But fun nonetheless. I even wore my swimming suit and borrowed our friend's boogie board to try and catch some waves (they're not very big here). We even found some tiny hermit crabs that we tried to make battle one another. Unfortunately, they were more interested in trying to get away than battling.
Finn, like always, was mainly interested in digging and playing in the sand. He thought the hermit crabs were pretty neat too. He kept doing the sign for spider and making his hand walk up his arm to his neck. He then proceeded to tickle himself and laugh! What a funny kid he is. The other day I got him to say, "boo, yeah!"
Well, that's it for now. I'm working on getting some Maine postcards written to all our friends and family. They're coming soon!
