Memorial University of Newfoundland's new logo just says "Memorial University," and the 2006 research report (the first official publication under the new 'branding') never once actually calls the University by its proper name. EDIT: Oh wow, I just went to look at it again, and now, it does! *wonders if it has been changed in response to people kicking up a fuss* The new logo is still terrible, though.
Here's a petition to fix that.
It probably seems like a piddling thing, but it's actually deeply tied up in issues of identity, cultural heritage, etc. I think "of Newfoundland" is just as important as "Memorial."
And the people on the petition arguing that Labrador should be included in the name mis-understand what the University is named for. It isn't named for the province, it's named for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment (as Memorial College was founded shortly after WW I). That's why MUN should stay MUN.
