Joshua is ordained a Priest on March 16, 2014!! We are so proud of him. (He likes to steal Karston's ties. Ha Ha.)

And later in March, at the beginning of Spring Break, Dad and Josh and EK start on Mom's hair salon! The salon is going into the 3rd garage at our house, and the first step is to cut through the cement to the back of the garage to lay a new sewer pipe where the salon bathroom will be built. This salon is something Mom has been wanting to do for a while... so here we go! Dad graciously gave up his 3rd garage for his dear wife. Now how many men would do that? He's the best!

Gilbert Temple Open House

The Gilbert, AZ Temple was dedicated on March 2, 2014. We enjoyed going down for the open house, and seeing Eileen's sisters, Diane and Kelsey there and Ed's family.

This is Joshua Leland Burgoyne! He is our 6th child and we love him dearly!!

He is his mother's current favorite!! He gets all the attention from mom and dad!

He is also the one we go to for all of our project help. He is a great worker and is always willing to help out. Here he is digging out the trench for the sewer line for the salon in March of 2014.

Jason married Savannah Kleinlein in the Mesa AZ Temple in March of 2013. It was a beautiful wedding to a beautiful girl. Savannah is smart, talented and wonderful and we are so glad Jason found her. Below are pictures of that wonderful day and evening.

Marcie and Karston's Wedding

On March 17, 2012, Marcie married Karston Lee in the Snowflake AZ Temple. They had met at EAC during her first year of college in Thatcher. In fact, she had been there for maybe a month before she met her true love. And the funny thing is, he is a St. Johns boy, but she had to go to college to meet him. We love Karston and are so glad she found him. They are a perfect match and the cutest couple you ever did see.

A beautiful reception was held at the downtown church that evening. The line was continuous for 2 hours. So many people came to support them.

Her wedding cake was made by her good friend Hannah Isaacson. It was one of her first cake adventures and she did a wonderful job. All in all the wedding was very beautiful and magical! We are so happy for Marcie and Karston. We love you!

Only a year behind!

It is now the beginning of February, 2013 and I am about to post about what happened at the end of last January, 2012, which means I am only a year behind on the old family blog! But I guess it doesn't matter too much since I'm pretty sure our family is the only ones that reads this blog, and I am doing this only as a journal type record for our family, so as long as important events get recorded sometime....that is all that matters right!?

Last January, we learned that Elder David A. Bednar would be coming to our little town of St. Johns to re-organize our stake presidency. Our whole town was so excited! It's not often that we get important church leaders in town and one of the12! That was practically unheard of. We were especially excited that it was going to be Elder Bednar. He is one of our favorites...(if you can have a favorite apostle). I love all of his talks and books and always look forward to hearing him in General Conference. So ...to say the least we were all very excited. Ed had served in the previous stake presidency with President Broadbent and President Lee for 8 years and had loved it. We were kinda sad that this stake presidency would be dissolved and a new one called. Lots of wonderful memories and good experiences. We had a wonderful dinner at President Broadbent's home with all of us before they were going to be released.and it was a fun time to be together one last time and express love for one another. Ed loved serving with these wonderful men and learned so much. Here is a picture of the entire Stake Presidency and Stake High Council before they were released..

Stake conference was being held the 28th and 29th of January and they began interviewing members of the high council early saturday morning, to find the new stake president. Ed was interviewed along with everyone else and then came home. He went with me back to the stake center to help me set up tables and chairs and set the table for the stake presidency dinner that evening, the dinner that we always have on saturday night in between priesthood meeting and the adult meeting. We then left the stake center and went to the car wash on the way home and were washing the car when his cell phone rang. He handed me the sprayer and walked around the corner to take the call. When he came back, he did not look good at all. His face and eyes were bright red and I thought, "Oh no, we're in trouble." He said, "They want us down at the stake center right away." So we ran home, changed our clothes and headed back to the stake center.

They talked to Ed first and then to me. It was really a wonderful experience meeting Elder Bednar and Elder Pickerd who was the other authority who came with Elder Bednar. They were kind, and funny and down to earth and I was not even nervous talking with them. They are wonderful men of God and it was a privilege to meet them.

Anyway I guess Ed passed the test, so to speak and they called him to be the next President of the St. Johns Arizona Stake of Zion. We were awestruck and still are a year later. Ed's counselors are Ferrin Crosby and Kevin Lee. His clerks are Larry Von Stradling and Spencer Wilhelm. We were privileged for all of us to meet with them, early the next morning before Stake conference in the High Council room, where they taught us many things and gave some training to the new stake presidency. We wives were included in this and it was a wonderful experience. We then went in to the general session of stake conference. It was very neat. We all stood as Elder Bednar and Elder Pickard and the old stake presidency came in and took their seats. We had been taught the night before at the adult meeting by Elder Bednar and it was very enlightening and this meeting was no different. They conducted the business of the meeting first and put in Ed as the stake president and his counselors who all spoke. I also bore my testimony and President Broadbent and Lee. I was so nervous and had worried past mid-night about what to say. We all survived somehow though. We had not told our kids, but they had all planned all coming anyway, because they wanted to hear Elder Bednar speak at their old hometown, so everyone was here except Emily who lives to far away to come. But we told them all that evening and it was so great to have them all here for it.

It was wonderful to hear Elder Bednar speak. He spoke for about an hour just off the cuff...no notes or anything, and it was powerful and wonderful.. He spoke very candidly about the process of selecting a new stake president and how it all works, and made the point that when they come to a stake to choose a new stake president, they don't come to choose a stake president themselves, they come to find the man that the Lord had already chosen. He had explained that to us the day before when he called Ed, and said to me, and Sister Burgoyne, your husband is that man." (that the Lord has chosen.) I believe that and support and sustain Ed wholeheartedly. We love the Lord and are grateful for the opportunity to serve Him. It has a been a wonderful year.

After the sunday stake conference we all met back in the High Council room and Ed and his counselors were set apart. Elder Bednar set apart Ed, and Elder Pickard set apart Bro. Kevin Lee and then they had Ed set apart Bro. Ferrin Crosby. Talk about pressure. Was a remarkable experience. The whole thing was amazing. How grateful we are. Then they were kind enough to allow us to take a million pictures with them. That was fun. Below are a couple of pictures from that morning.

A Tale of Two Houses...

So.... last year at about this time, we were in the process of buying a new house. We were, in fact, just about to close on it and begin the remodeling process, as the new home needed quite a bit of work. For instance, Ed would redo the entire plumbing throughout the house due to the infamous poly-butelyn pipe that was in the house. And Eileen would end up painting more than she ever thought she would. Sometimes 2 or 3 times, trying to get the color right. We replaced carpet, put in tile, redid the kitchen and bathroom counter tops with granite and a million other things. It was a HUGE job and we all breathed a sigh of relief when we finally got things done in time to move in just a couple of days before Christmas. Actually, doing all we did in a little more than 2 months time was not bad. Of course we have continued to paint and work on the place constantly over the last year, but it has come along and we have loved, loved, loved the new place and are filled with gratitude for Heavenly Father's bounteous blessings to us. Antelope Canyon--Guys Trip

While Marcie and I were having our "girls trip" in Hawaii, Ed and 3 of our sons went to Antelope Canyon over the 4th of July for a "guys trip." Antelope Canyon is a very photogenic canyon near Page, AZ. They all lugged in big cameras and tri-pods so they could get the "photographers pass" and roam the canyon on their own. I think between them all they took thousands of pictures.

More June Events: Hawaii!

In June, Marcie and I had the opportunity to go to Hawaii with her YW leader, Monica, who is from there, and one of her best friends, Jenna and her mother, Kirstin. Monica often takes small groups every summer to Hawaii and hosts them at her mothers house and then acts as tour guide for a week showing them the beautiful island of Oahu where she grew up. We were excited for such an opportunity and bit the bullet and went. We were so glad we did. Monica is a fun and enthusiastic host and knew all the best places to go. We thoroughly enjoyed the 10 days we were there and saw and learned much. One of the things that impressed me the most is how happy all the island people are. They are constantly laughing and joking and enjoying life as if they never have a care. That is how Monica is too....and we knew that about her before we left, but now we understand a little bit more about why she is the way she is. (My personal opinion about why they are that way is because they never have winter, ha ha.) I mean really, if you lived in paradise all year round where there is beauty on every side and never had winter! No wonder they are all smiles!
Here are a few highlights:

Surfing was on the top of the girls list and so we wasted no time in getting them to the beach to try their luck. They actually were not bad!

Girls Camp---June 2011

I loved being on our stake girls camp committee this last summer.

The Theme was "Come Take Your Place", and we used the theme to try and help the girls remember who they are as Daughters of God and to remember that their eventual place is with him in the eternities. On the first day of camp as they arrived the Junior counselors placed a crown on their heads and they walked down the "red carpet" into camp.

I loved working with all the wonderful women on the committee. It was interesting to see how each woman filled a different role in the preparation and execution of the camp. It was as if Heavenly Father had hand-picked each person and as we met together all spring in planning sessions to plan the camp, it was amazing to see how it all just fell together perfectly, as each person brought their ideas and talents to the planning meetings.

It was way too much fun! I love these ladies!

There were lots and lots of activities: horse-back riding, archery, tomahawk throwing and crafts and nightly devotionals, and of course all the certification that went along with it. This was Marcies very last year at girls camp and I was glad I got to share it with her.

She was quite proud of sticking all three tomahawks in...not an easy feat.

Everyone agrees...there is just something special about girls camp...Hopefully we will not soon forget the wonderful lessons and friendships that were made there in that beautiful place.

June Wedding

Stephanie got married in June and we enjoyed going to her beautiful reception. It was really fun for us since the young man she married was from our former ward in Mesa. We had lived in that ward for 12 years, before moving to St. Johns and grew to love it and all the wonderful people in it. We were pleasantly surprised to see many of our old friends from that ward come to the reception to wish the cute couple well. Here are a few pictures from the reception....

Journal of June

It seems like the pleasant days of summer were a long time in coming this year. Our area had a terrible wildfire that began over Memorial Day and the entire region felt its affects for most all of the month of June. Also, the wind lasted forever up here this year, which was of course a factor in the "Wallow fire", which ended up being the second largest wildfire in the nation, second only to the Yellowstone Fire. Most all of the towns up here were evacuated. Ed went out one afternoon and took a few pictures of the smoke from the Wallow fire.

When you think of the month of May, you think of graduations, and we did have one in our family this month. Marcie graduated from High School! We are so proud of her. She is an excellent student and a wonderful person, graduating 3rd in her class even!
She was very busy this year, with her studies and participating in the orchestra, and student council where she served as Senior Class President. She also was in Honor Society and volunteered in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. Soccer took most of her extra time, the first semester, where it really paid off, as her team won the 2A state championship!! The second semester she took up Dance with one of her friends and participated in a local dance group. She loved that and did very well, although it was something she had never done before. It was fun to watch her learn and grow this year through her many activities and watch her leadership skills grow as she spent many hours fulfilling her duties in student council. The merry month of May

I am pretty far behind in posting on this blog. Let's see if I can catch up on a few happenings for the month of May. It was a very busy month, which is typical for this time of year, with school coming to a close and recitals and graduations, etc. etc.
Also, early in the month we took a trip out to Washington D.C. to visit Jason, who had been living in Alexandria, VA since January, doing an internship for law school for the semester. His job was coming to a close and since I had always wanted to see the D.C. area, we went back and took the opportunity to tour around a little and see the sights. It was very interesting and lots of fun. Here are a few highlights.

This is Monticello, Thomas Jeffersons house. This was one of my favorite places we visited. I did a paper on him and his beloved Monticello earlier that semester for a class I took.

The National Cathedral. This place was amazing. The archtitecture and deco of the building inside and out was unbelievable. They were having a festival on the grounds and there were tons of people, and arts and crafts exhibits, and things to do and see as well as wonderful food to eat. Was alot of fun, but the building itself was the show stopper.

Mt. Vernon, George Washington's home was another favorite place we visited. The grounds were impressive and from the large back porch was a sweeping view of the Potomac. The house was beautiful too, but my favorite part of these homes, were often the grounds and gardens.

This is a picture of our capitol building tour. Jason's roomate worked at the capitol and drove us in one morning and got us tickets. Very interesting place with beautiful architecture and art everywhere.

We almost skipped the library of Congress and are so glad we didn't. It was really something. Every inch of this beautiful building was tiled, painted or decorated to the hilt in some fashion. The picture doesn't do it justice. Of course Ed went crazy, taking who knows how many pictures of this place from every angle imaginable. Another beautiful building.

One neat thing that happened was when we were walking downtown on our way to see the White House and happened to be in the right place at the right time to see Obama's motorcade leave. They shut down the intersections and made everyone stand back and pretty soon here comes half a dozen cop cars and then several black SUV's and ambulances and more cop cars and on and on. The President doesn't travel light, that's for sure. It was pretty fun to see the big procession, there must have been 15-20 vehicles at least in all.

General Conference weekend

We enjoyed going to conference last weekend. We hadn't been for several years and it was also a good opportunity to visit Emily and Daniel before they move back east to go to school. We had a wonderful visit with them and we will miss going and visiting them in Provo. They are sad to leave such a great place, but are excited for their new opportunity to get Daniels masters degree and live in such an interesting area.
Conference was amazing as usual and the talks and music were inspirational. It was especially fun on Sunday morning to get to be in our seats early and get to see "Music and the Spoken Word" be recorded. The mormon tabernacle choir truly rocks!

On Saturday it was like springtime, complete with blossoms and everything....

The next day, we woke up to snow and it was quite cold waiting for the trax to take us to and from places. But still lots of fun. Love Salt Lake. We girls walked all over while the men were in the Priesthood session. Em and Marcie were smart and bought new jeans and shoes and changed clothes, leaving Mom in her dress and heels.

January Events

I must say I have never been a fan of winter time. In fact, I have no use for winter, except that the months of January and February must be endured I suppose so that we can eventually get on to the more pleasant, beautiful and important months of summer time. Nonetheless, life goes on in January, just the same as it does in any other month, and so here are a few of the more notable happenings of that grey, leafless month!

Sterling gets married! It was a beautiful wedding and it was good for 2! trips out of the cold country down to the the land of the warm. Hallelujah!

Also in January our dog had puppies. This was an endless source of delight to the 2 kids left at home, but Dad and Mom? Not so much. Yes, the puppies were adorable, but in January? when you have no choice but to be kind and let them stay indoors? Despite the fact that they don't always smell so delightful? However, we made it through and the puppies are now big enough to go to new homes. Takers anyone? (They really are sooo cute!!)

The kids favorite activity in January is skipping out of school for a day here and there to go up to Sunrise to ski and snowboard. We have taken several groups of kids up there over the last few years, and Marcie and Josh love it and have actually gotten pretty good! These are kind of old photos, I think from the first year we went. We didn't take alot of pictures after the first couple of trips.

State Soccer Champs!

Last Fall was soccer season as usual and St. Johns Girls soccer had an exceptional year. They were undefeated, even beating their arch rival, Blue Ridge High School on Blue Ridge's home field. That was a sweet victory. They went on to win the State Championship game in a hard-fought game, on a hot day in the hot valley. They had been playing for 3 plus hours, and the game was intense right up until the last minute. The game went into not one, but two overtimes and St. Johns finally won it in the shoot-out. Marcie proudly wore the #7 jersey, just like her big sister before her.

We are so sad to retire the #7 Big Red Lady Redskin Jersey. This marks the end of a very long string of years watching Redskin soccer. But, we've still got Josh coming up in the ranks!

Gila Valley Temple

On May 8, 2010, we attended the Gila Valley Temple open house in Central, Arizona. We are so excited to witness the building of another temple, especially in the good old Gila Valley, where Eileen and her sisters grew up. We were thrilled to hear that it would be built in Central on the same softball fields that we played on when we were young women there. The Gila Valley is a special place and our grandparents and great grandparents and ancestors were among the early settlers there. Grandma Inez and Grandpa Leland Carpenter were cotton farmers in Eden all their lives. We know they are all rejoicing in the heavens above at this temple being built there.

Water Park Fun!

I am finally getting around to posting some pictures of the fun we had at the water park in August. It was surely fun to see everyone there....unfortunately, I didn't get anyone else on camera except our family, but hopefully this will remind us of the good times we had there, and if anyone else has pic's...put them up! This one above, is of us in the wave pool.

Pioneer days is always a good time, and the parade, of course is one of the highlights. This float has some of the church leaders in town throwing candy...who is that guy?

This float was amazing. Honest Abe would actually stand up and sit back down as he went down the road!

The parade was great, and at the end the fire truck hosed everyone down. Yea!, cause it was hot!

Ed thought it was great--Camron wasn't so sure.

The kids loved getting the eggs every day from the coop.

After church Sunday, we took family pictures, minus baby Wesley who was napping, and his parents wouldn't wake him up!!
