As we are once again approaching the anniversary of her death, I am saddened by how few photos we have of the family. Looking back, I don't remember my mom being overweight, what I do remember is a great laugh, a lap that was soft and warm, always willing to read a book or give a hug, and a mom willing to go outside with us to help us with whatever sport we were currently playing (and goodness knows she had her hands full trying to turn this girly-girl into an aggressive sports player).<br /> <br /> Luckily I am blessed with a great friend who does a fabulous job taking photos (the great Erika Snow has done all of James's photos and several of Colby and I), who values the importance of photos, and isn't afraid to push me a bit when it comes to family photos. Do I want pictures of James to capture that moment in time?! Yes, I am great about making sure they happen. Photos of myself?? Not so much.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghdhmDHuqsYGt4VLF5OFfcPeFJgJO2mXcAENCs4phxKdEl-dNolrODHP_BlKFDiY5w_IWZtcDvWWSYus5KXWlJKt2ohHlsHpM6nsHF7R-JLrxRjV1pGFfMDhz1MTp1x8lSsrxV6pRC6gg/s1600/James+6+days+September+2013-James+6+days+September+2013-0026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghdhmDHuqsYGt4VLF5OFfcPeFJgJO2mXcAENCs4phxKdEl-dNolrODHP_BlKFDiY5w_IWZtcDvWWSYus5KXWlJKt2ohHlsHpM6nsHF7R-JLrxRjV1pGFfMDhz1MTp1x8lSsrxV6pRC6gg/s1600/James+6+days+September+2013-James+6+days+September+2013-0026.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div> <br /> <br /> My baby is now over one and those 30 pounds that I was supposed to lose right after he was born have stubbornly stuck around. (Can you still call it baby weight when your child is no longer considered a baby?!) But as a thought about (and stressed about) getting these latest family photos taken I realized a couple of things, first, no matter my weight I would always find something about myself that was less than perfect and, in my mind, ruining the photos (which the mean voice in my head is a whole 'nother discussion).<br /> <br /> Second, that I have an amazing husband who hates getting his photo taken even more than I do but he is willing to do it, without complaining I might add, because I wanted it done. Not only did he show up in the appropriate outfit, he listened to me stress and obsess over the color palate of the outfits and have a freak out the day of regarding the clothing I had already chosen.<br /> <br /> Third, and most important, that regardless of what I think about it this photo captures a picture of what our little family looks like at this exact moment. Our family will never look like this again, other children may come, James will get older, and never again will we look like we do right now. So I am going to ignore how round my face looks and my dress size and appreciate the great setting, the way my family looks at this exact moment, and, let's be completely honest, nobody is really looking at me when they can see that cute little boy in the front. &nbsp;<br /> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5rsWeB2jZjasiynzbqvzdHsrWQCd4nZagCHRqi0_-Gb2-rk1W3EkEwhw4WplwVEFxQ8rksR7qsYr-rKF4VNM1NWHtE4EyZsfcSXP1mEaAP17MA44W__oYSYrzBU8phzoVZanUhY4DQHE/s1600/10393684_10152522261409545_2710989764925503540_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5rsWeB2jZjasiynzbqvzdHsrWQCd4nZagCHRqi0_-Gb2-rk1W3EkEwhw4WplwVEFxQ8rksR7qsYr-rKF4VNM1NWHtE4EyZsfcSXP1mEaAP17MA44W__oYSYrzBU8phzoVZanUhY4DQHE/s1600/10393684_10152522261409545_2710989764925503540_n.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> <br />Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-35669416407098334832014-09-22T22:10:00.000-07:002014-09-23T05:59:16.984-07:00James is One!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8Zm1X6xZSrVXpzfShmo4-JOHZ5SYWl6DLSz5FPPScAiSfrrZVHnHgJ2ta-PY1GLGYjGQhT_sH66q1JXMMt0uLEP_S3pwJoroPIWySpfSNZHpLRIyOB42LImRMcsltSgAaPXZpWOOyUZk/s1600/James-James+edits-0014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8Zm1X6xZSrVXpzfShmo4-JOHZ5SYWl6DLSz5FPPScAiSfrrZVHnHgJ2ta-PY1GLGYjGQhT_sH66q1JXMMt0uLEP_S3pwJoroPIWySpfSNZHpLRIyOB42LImRMcsltSgAaPXZpWOOyUZk/s1600/James-James+edits-0014.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div> I can't believe how fast time flies (and that it has been a year since I last posted on this blog). One of the best pieces of advice I received while pregnant--and I received it from several people--was to take time to enjoy each stage of James' growth because it passes so quickly. Boy were they correct! We love having him as a part of our family, with all the joy, noise, frustrations, mess, and giggles he brings with him.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVUXnHPmamZi2muUTQY7xanFHG-IZzevTJmGWU9teL9VZNrwtATd_f1PsiSPH5Nl0af42jtLHbw3SwZSLUA7XLQz0PkeuXInNXNrKLexo7nTF65aUoY4yf6YpvVs5cXxO_uzUySXtqhLk/s1600/James-James+edits-0016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVUXnHPmamZi2muUTQY7xanFHG-IZzevTJmGWU9teL9VZNrwtATd_f1PsiSPH5Nl0af42jtLHbw3SwZSLUA7XLQz0PkeuXInNXNrKLexo7nTF65aUoY4yf6YpvVs5cXxO_uzUySXtqhLk/s1600/James-James+edits-0016.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> This little monkey has been anxious to get out and see things from the very beginning (3 weeks early) and that hasn't changed. He loves people, he LOVES going to the grocery store and being fawned over by the older people there so I try to time our visits to coincide with as many of the older generation as possible. James is constantly on the go! He doesn't like to sit still but crawls laps around our kitchen island. <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn1IuokRQiyhsDhZYfmMp2Vw2iqZ-TmuNHlLiji7ZYr4s3xOuw5emVE70HMvId8gCPccv4To2TGwUxx6eRcK7eECEzcvtM_J-keAd_p06vtJosA8geC-aLu1dUxteXquyUzShOHN6fxxg/s1600/James-James+edits-0010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn1IuokRQiyhsDhZYfmMp2Vw2iqZ-TmuNHlLiji7ZYr4s3xOuw5emVE70HMvId8gCPccv4To2TGwUxx6eRcK7eECEzcvtM_J-keAd_p06vtJosA8geC-aLu1dUxteXquyUzShOHN6fxxg/s1600/James-James+edits-0010.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> He loves food and will eat just about anything offered to him (and anything off the ground). About two weeks ago he decided that he is a big boy and now won't eat anything that he thinks is baby food. It is really annoying and I have to get creative with how I present some food to him. For instance, I tried to do homemade burritos the other day but the tortillas were too tough for his six little teeth to handle so I put the burrito stuffing in a bowl, not thinking that I chose the blue bowl that his baby food is put into, and when he saw I was still eating the tortilla-clad burrito he refused to eat what was in the bowl. I ended up pretending I was scooping out the inside of my burrito to get him to eat it. He is much too smart for his own good (or his Mama's efforts).<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Kfb-gr-t8OntjcpTqJd1YmwEKPomGs_faRN9t8NBXntRM2qXviw-vumCyXYSHpuPac8Xef8iVurbb6vXrBFmrQ7I_aBM7K2hBgiRhgqKI7I4fvClJb-PR3pknEpS-p1QZGQO4HeyXJ8/s1600/James-James+edits-0003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Kfb-gr-t8OntjcpTqJd1YmwEKPomGs_faRN9t8NBXntRM2qXviw-vumCyXYSHpuPac8Xef8iVurbb6vXrBFmrQ7I_aBM7K2hBgiRhgqKI7I4fvClJb-PR3pknEpS-p1QZGQO4HeyXJ8/s1600/James-James+edits-0003.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div> <br /> He loves Smokey Joe (yes, my 19 year-old cat is still alive) but Smokey Joe does not love him. James loves to chase Jojo around the house (Jojo is never fond of this) and likes to pat Jojo with either his hands or whatever toy happens to be in his hands. Poor Jojo! To give Jojo some peace we have modified (i.e. cut a hole) in a baby gate so he has one room he can go into that James cannot. We had to do this partly because James kept eating the cat food and partly because Jojo doesn't move as well as he used to and can't always jump up on furniture to get out of James's reach. :(<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHJak_ktwl0TEfuoP1gLLrryjd5-e2enx06-T462No8_3OKnDZdMl7h8zf_7_HhlucBR2m4PCVZbmeywk114nqMv6NBnLziZrK8IpDHdk4Exg5ObcRzsvdSuLG-YjslJMbN5fEPMz-ng4/s1600/IMG_0481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHJak_ktwl0TEfuoP1gLLrryjd5-e2enx06-T462No8_3OKnDZdMl7h8zf_7_HhlucBR2m4PCVZbmeywk114nqMv6NBnLziZrK8IpDHdk4Exg5ObcRzsvdSuLG-YjslJMbN5fEPMz-ng4/s1600/IMG_0481.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> James loves swimming and anything to do with water. He will put his face under water or splash himself over and over again. Needless to say bath time is frequently a wet experience for everyone involved.<br /> <br /> James LOVES his daddy, he will choose Colby over me every time. I try not to be too jealous and I have to admit that sometimes it is nice that he prefers his dad and I get a bit of a break. :)<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNdXNA5kcGk_ss8XWT2i0Ske3hFawBAi1W_Ahyoy12Uv8089N21kEkkXibYVpuy8y_g4aJPdijY7ScD2bnmT5KOSTAicQ2h7XveXWe27hU4uG_-AVMO9omxyZsUSQsREtDa4lpxnGh7h0/s1600/James-James+edits-0017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNdXNA5kcGk_ss8XWT2i0Ske3hFawBAi1W_Ahyoy12Uv8089N21kEkkXibYVpuy8y_g4aJPdijY7ScD2bnmT5KOSTAicQ2h7XveXWe27hU4uG_-AVMO9omxyZsUSQsREtDa4lpxnGh7h0/s1600/James-James+edits-0017.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Not only does James never stop moving, he never stops making noise. He loves to talk, sing (I hope it is singing), making little boy noises, pounding things, clapping his hands (you get the picture), if it makes a noise he wants to do it and he wants to do it loudly. You will notice in this photo he has a rock in his hand, the first thing he did when we stood him up next to the crate was to grab a rock and start pounding on the crate. When I took the rock away he calmly reached down, picked up another rock, and continued to pound. Erika Snow Photography took these fabulous photos. James did a pretty good job, much better than his six month photos but he did finally reach the "I'm done" point.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEloqHm9Kik1UjVo-c4WT_5mLBOnNRp9VnKIYPLKUQJhQEC5iixOGhgAQYBa1AlI4o53XpYiYhbAZ3g7uAZEfHIL1G9fK98CxuZQXqcTGKoL-9zqOEnIVm1gB4g4KFayPn0qqMoSv3V2o/s1600/James-James+edits-0019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEloqHm9Kik1UjVo-c4WT_5mLBOnNRp9VnKIYPLKUQJhQEC5iixOGhgAQYBa1AlI4o53XpYiYhbAZ3g7uAZEfHIL1G9fK98CxuZQXqcTGKoL-9zqOEnIVm1gB4g4KFayPn0qqMoSv3V2o/s1600/James-James+edits-0019.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <br /></div> <br /> <br /> <br />Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-68341662435657786762013-10-26T20:47:00.001-07:002013-10-26T20:54:46.671-07:00Time Flies!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZTHu7uf_Qv1BSz2YgCPE-u-KUfDwBxXec1Hd08GdfL-lXOAoLKhuEq6AFBLlUQAErxUdiBTq1oeDiMFP9zTlVeQoYqE1ibsYwvGW2Ip30Er2Gm49m9_yZ0mW46GhPFTvC7r6Rumsuaa8/s1600/James+6+days+September+2013-James+6+days+September+2013-0016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZTHu7uf_Qv1BSz2YgCPE-u-KUfDwBxXec1Hd08GdfL-lXOAoLKhuEq6AFBLlUQAErxUdiBTq1oeDiMFP9zTlVeQoYqE1ibsYwvGW2Ip30Er2Gm49m9_yZ0mW46GhPFTvC7r6Rumsuaa8/s1600/James+6+days+September+2013-James+6+days+September+2013-0016.jpg" height="320" width="200" /></a></div> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; I can't believe how fast our little boy is growing up! Everyone always warns you that they grow up so fast but I didn't think it went this quickly. The above photo was taken at six days old (isn't he cute?! Of course, I am a little biased). When James was born he was three weeks early, weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and was 20 inches long. My water broke early on Friday and we were excited thinking we were going to get a Friday the 13th baby. But he surprised us again and wasn't born until 5:01 Saturday morning (I have to admit this surprise was not as fun for me...). For the most part every thing went well with the delivery. But about four hours after delivery, they nurses checked his blood sugar and it was dangerously low so he was rushed to the NICU. He has been in the NICU since then but he is doing well, he is eating well, he is responsive, super adorable (of course I might be biased) and we cautiously hoping he will be coming home on Thursday.&nbsp;</span><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJwEcu2NBKhOVEiD5ot5ljygeSYAhbtL0hWioy5g9ZGwwiLIDM5LMLUHhnTRdJRJnxM_XRTP_biZjuaMvQVzFnTV95hsDeFZ8JNSN-RXl6f018tjvzWVG-hbMW24kt3HyHgYML3-tcXOA/s1600/557558_10151727567549545_2015495252_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJwEcu2NBKhOVEiD5ot5ljygeSYAhbtL0hWioy5g9ZGwwiLIDM5LMLUHhnTRdJRJnxM_XRTP_biZjuaMvQVzFnTV95hsDeFZ8JNSN-RXl6f018tjvzWVG-hbMW24kt3HyHgYML3-tcXOA/s1600/557558_10151727567549545_2015495252_n.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div> <span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div> Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-10896020171673307852013-08-21T12:17:00.000-07:002013-08-21T12:17:04.444-07:00Pinterest and Too Much Time On My Hands or the Quest to Finish the @#$% Quiet Book<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> &nbsp; &nbsp; <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSVHP3MSjrSgtHMuXYQBXzeQ9GM5r2oQujhU6ZbrO8Gmpi34aInmkQsw4YlDfdR1Vvht2fyITahqHF2lo4p7OQy3avmZlpXRNhSrQ1f8Ljf2IezrlJo8cyw5R5RK-AWLwYxqNT7ZVvMVE/s1600/IMG_3500.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSVHP3MSjrSgtHMuXYQBXzeQ9GM5r2oQujhU6ZbrO8Gmpi34aInmkQsw4YlDfdR1Vvht2fyITahqHF2lo4p7OQy3avmZlpXRNhSrQ1f8Ljf2IezrlJo8cyw5R5RK-AWLwYxqNT7ZVvMVE/s1600/IMG_3500.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; For those of you not aware, I have been taking a break from working until after the little munchkin gets here (partly because it took so long for the Bar results to come in and by the time they did I was already 5 months prego but for a few other reasons). This means that for the first time since I was 12 I have not had at least a part time job, this has been interesting experience for me since I am essentially a stay-at-home mom with no kids. So what do you do with your time, you ask? Well, thanks to the wonder that is Pinterest I get delusions of grandeur and forget the reality that is my skill set. I found this great quiet book idea at <a href="http://jocelynandjason.blogspot.com/2013/01/quiet-book-template.html" target="_blank">Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows</a> and thought, I can totally do that!<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; I totally forgot that 1) I really don't like sitting at a sewing machine for hours at a time and 2) I really have no sewing skills, no really, it is one of the few crafts I have been unable to master. Luckily I like Joe a lot or else I wouldn't have been okay with it! I don't have the photos from the actual wedding yet, just the bridal photos we took earlier so we could display them at the wedding reception. We had an AMAZING photographer and I HIGHLY recommend him, he was easy to work with, got us the photos back super fast and he did an incredible job! His website is <a href="http://www.photosynthetix.com/" target="_blank">PhotoSynthetix&nbsp;</a>, he is new to the wedding photog business but don't let that stop you from hiring him.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKd-WnLBCCRHf_osB79Kf2IMHLCyFinH_Ibq9BnWFiqdNSW21LibFXsE0SlBQninma3g5pts0e-20YMrDCnGtdQIfMwYwKOJ_yNVZ3SQsdVAfNbNwJ1SORhSFf_Zqfo6nLAIvRMyDW7-I/s1280/Bridal+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKd-WnLBCCRHf_osB79Kf2IMHLCyFinH_Ibq9BnWFiqdNSW21LibFXsE0SlBQninma3g5pts0e-20YMrDCnGtdQIfMwYwKOJ_yNVZ3SQsdVAfNbNwJ1SORhSFf_Zqfo6nLAIvRMyDW7-I/s1280/Bridal+3.jpg" width="214" /></a></div> Jill decided (and I was totally jealous because I wanted to wear it when I got married but it didn't fit me) to get married in the same 1940s dress that our grandmother, Fae and our mother, Julie, were married in. Because she decided to wear the original dress we decided to go completely vintage on the theme for the wedding and thanks to the amazing efforts of Kay (and everyone else who helped) it was fabulous!<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj72uqACtvwK20F8mPf6vaJMvliVFBTdPkDO1foo8k6RJnwgor1Lnitx9uXjLjRM-0QusJ3pb7sWFZF7OkWNar7Nh6lmC8wLyao8G1GprDRxeYQTrcITyAlxCcpGKoLdb2-zZt_DH7Ce98/s1280/Bridal+16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj72uqACtvwK20F8mPf6vaJMvliVFBTdPkDO1foo8k6RJnwgor1Lnitx9uXjLjRM-0QusJ3pb7sWFZF7OkWNar7Nh6lmC8wLyao8G1GprDRxeYQTrcITyAlxCcpGKoLdb2-zZt_DH7Ce98/s1280/Bridal+16.jpg" width="214" /></a></div> Instead of going with the traditional flowers, Kay made this amazing bouquet using some old costume jewelry (some was Grandma McArthur's, some was mom's and some was mine from my beauty pageant days), fake pearls, and some new jewelry that looks old.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6aUmPZonNTT10TYe59q_is_9GEbHNGNzMLzhpGSd0omaiX-pLAbGXVu-WQm855PpsXfud1dHgFd-HNHP-3v72Dx76tmASryy-leKYDLO49j8KudfTWiHSyCAU7QlWFNO8ekyK_2JHmHI/s1280/Bridal+91.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6aUmPZonNTT10TYe59q_is_9GEbHNGNzMLzhpGSd0omaiX-pLAbGXVu-WQm855PpsXfud1dHgFd-HNHP-3v72Dx76tmASryy-leKYDLO49j8KudfTWiHSyCAU7QlWFNO8ekyK_2JHmHI/s1280/Bridal+91.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> Those of you who know Jill well know that she loves wearing her Converses so when we started talking shoes she had her heart set on ordering a custom pair from Converse. We held Jillian's family bridal shower April 25th when I happened to be in town to help with the wedding preparation. Jill received some needed household items and some items that made her blush but I am sure made Joe happy after the wedding. :-)</div> Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-12169066004603972312012-06-22T12:17:00.000-07:002012-06-22T12:17:05.781-07:00New House finishedWe are finally in our new house, it has been a long road of choosing granite four times, deciding on flooring and hoping and praying that the vision in my head would match how the house really turned out. I think it turned out fabulously! (but I am a bit biased) I thought I would share with you the before and after photos (so you can see how big of a transformation it has been)<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZA_yebHM_Edqr4dxmIAZ0wDJ_l4hjisbCKFr2Gq61S2z578YOiL2saY1LF2OjkN7Jhih_6KZkj02axpODEAnG5hP4nSMGN6OZH4RtxWrLiP9uWqK_9hk956vpp_DHNnQQ-Ank1SOxu6U/s1600/original+house.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZA_yebHM_Edqr4dxmIAZ0wDJ_l4hjisbCKFr2Gq61S2z578YOiL2saY1LF2OjkN7Jhih_6KZkj02axpODEAnG5hP4nSMGN6OZH4RtxWrLiP9uWqK_9hk956vpp_DHNnQQ-Ank1SOxu6U/s320/original+house.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> The house originally had two front doors, we aren't quite sure why but needless to say I had them remove one (I refused to bounce back and forth between the two doors whenever anyone knocked). As you can see in the picture below, they added a window and bricks and you can't tell that a door was there once. (They yard still need some TLC but most of that will have to wait until summer is over and it isn't 101 degrees at 9:00 am). We also had the exterior repainted, the roof&nbsp;re-shingled&nbsp;and the roof fixed (it leaked in the masterbath when we bought the house. We also had them remove the swamp cooler that wasn't hooked up to anything but was on the roof (we have central a/c that was also mounted on the roof).<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwzUvyvhEYcrxt4HbJoxG2bhwvkIlCIAHmC_hArNydCNELWzWCkpyAnjxXQvyLhm7y4F52hO3pomO2xKARlnzH0NfC1mCZHobF4ykxCFljZ9AeFYwiuygHLL_3KIA1Mtbw3Zf2mYYeMws/s1600/IMG_3259.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwzUvyvhEYcrxt4HbJoxG2bhwvkIlCIAHmC_hArNydCNELWzWCkpyAnjxXQvyLhm7y4F52hO3pomO2xKARlnzH0NfC1mCZHobF4ykxCFljZ9AeFYwiuygHLL_3KIA1Mtbw3Zf2mYYeMws/s320/IMG_3259.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> One of the biggest things we did to the house was to remove two walls that separated the living room and the kitchen and the kitchen from the dining room. From what we can tell about the house given the records and decorating style, the house was originally built in 1947 and then added on to and redecorated sometime in the 70s.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_X8smyXHkEWbwDXg6WkHWMTvjm49C0RvB9CjUr5aOrwNbf8Jt3_qmMGSLn3EeQVe8kRMALfpltZ75g60NoxbI7P7s9vKAjJNg4czfGsfZpUTqBZljgLuukhdAsWKL03-uuHwBexOcqe4/s1600/IMG_3094.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_X8smyXHkEWbwDXg6WkHWMTvjm49C0RvB9CjUr5aOrwNbf8Jt3_qmMGSLn3EeQVe8kRMALfpltZ75g60NoxbI7P7s9vKAjJNg4czfGsfZpUTqBZljgLuukhdAsWKL03-uuHwBexOcqe4/s320/IMG_3094.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> <br /> Because the wall we had removed was load bearing they installed a beam in the ceiling so we could open up the front room, making the three rooms one great room. This is what sold me on the house. The kitchen is really the heart of the house, it is where family and friends gather to eat, chat, and spend time together.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnLibAXhfmSSEkBB_i72odUFpef6Wrc1HXrPr3qxeWdmzLW_CKHYyQ1GF5Vt4SJTP7IdlYsDgUIf3zxQuZB7c1eOW6nKOdogbCYFE0TbWh5wy8RUCk6-iQIhyphenhyphenYx3pbMBxrvAUAaYdQo94/s1600/IMG_3255.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnLibAXhfmSSEkBB_i72odUFpef6Wrc1HXrPr3qxeWdmzLW_CKHYyQ1GF5Vt4SJTP7IdlYsDgUIf3zxQuZB7c1eOW6nKOdogbCYFE0TbWh5wy8RUCk6-iQIhyphenhyphenYx3pbMBxrvAUAaYdQo94/s320/IMG_3255.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> So had the wall removed, redid the kitchen cabinets, replaced the appliances, added the island and had them build a pantry with an&nbsp;unnecessary&nbsp;part of the hallway. It has been a long road and the last three years have been really tough but I finally did it (or more appropriately, Colby and I did it because I couldn't have done it without his help and support and ability to keep Mountain Dew in the house at all times)!<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOOttAPjiYgzIKVwgFu7gNEcRK8mPPqOnB4sxUSUDY7FjQJYjO6pxOt7TH9s1_ejtCbD3AGvQLDTN3YCCbvdlDFiR17H1FLiZq7KZcBhECXIbHNO7gb2SPaM9rKp7bQeIPjdvTjqj5Vhw/s1600/IMG_3237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOOttAPjiYgzIKVwgFu7gNEcRK8mPPqOnB4sxUSUDY7FjQJYjO6pxOt7TH9s1_ejtCbD3AGvQLDTN3YCCbvdlDFiR17H1FLiZq7KZcBhECXIbHNO7gb2SPaM9rKp7bQeIPjdvTjqj5Vhw/s320/IMG_3237.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> We were very blessed to have family members travel down to celebrate this exciting time with us. After the incredibly long and boring ceremony (and of course it was done alphabetically so I was 5th from last, yep, gotta love having a last name starting with W) we had a grill at Colby and I's house. Initially I was disappointed because I had hoped we were going to be in our new house for the party but then I realized it was fitting that finish off our last hurrah at the small little house we had spent the three years of law school in.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0KaVGlbkmBPOgn4Whn0kiSp6NOXloeqjlh1LcoLrVbxaeLK4O75MAZDaemMt1VeYKN1wBS9AOXthiXZoO2S4cQnHdUIrjcvzM3NlFm6paf20F5IrRpc67CbeotFqIZPT8d09sa7qhjp8/s1600/IMG_3244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0KaVGlbkmBPOgn4Whn0kiSp6NOXloeqjlh1LcoLrVbxaeLK4O75MAZDaemMt1VeYKN1wBS9AOXthiXZoO2S4cQnHdUIrjcvzM3NlFm6paf20F5IrRpc67CbeotFqIZPT8d09sa7qhjp8/s320/IMG_3244.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> <br />Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-86956874912960765222011-12-12T17:21:00.000-08:002011-12-12T18:05:45.181-08:00New House<div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> As law school is finally starting to come to a close, Colby and I are excited to finally be moving on to other happier milestones, the first of which is acquiring our first house! (Insert excited high pitch squealing from me and hmph from Colby!) But I have learned to follow my mother's personal motto, "Why do things the easy way when there's a harder way to do it?!" and the house purchasing has taken an unexpected turn. Instead of purchasing an already remodeled house we are purchasing a house, have lined up a contractor and are going to be remodeling it. By remodeling I really me we are gutting the entire thing to create an almost entire new house. I am posting the before pictures here and when the remodel is finished I will post how it turned out. I didn't get a picture of the outside, mostly because we have gotten about an inch of rain today and I didn't want to be out in it any longer than absolutely necessary.<br /> <br /> The house was originally built in 1947, has two additions, a den with sunroom and a one car garage but judging by the kitchen it was last updated in the 1970s. This is a shot of the front door we are keeping, as opposed to the other front door we are getting rid of. The wall you see on the left (which is a half wall separating the kitchen from the living room) is going to be torn down and a center island built in its place.<br /> <div> <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685419471082577954" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglnhpwHcT36s0YexAqylfCQTD0bl6eucK2YMPCuqUDkM2TNM5qRidl7B8nnfN_9nHzRGEWcV2PdGpUeMs7d8BJZG60ZpJ6bkbjOA10Ti15_medm0uS8UcF6pmNOe1pJmdC_OY4-jiG87g/s320/IMG_3093.JPG" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 240px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /><br /> <div> <br /> <div> The is another angle of the wall. I am sure you are all admiring the pretty sunflowers but they will be going away. The entire kitchen is going to be redone, with a gas range top and a double electric oven replacing the current unit (that doesn't work).<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix7hFKLAObVAjBQcbe-4quiBWilMNe8vqoq986Le6t4pk8KyLOxUAFOnsB4mlpxKjvWSSQr5azHT1Kfk3RT_OcwebtIYwrN1qVPcxbhcNYowF1dqJv52jZLPA0LSfweJRax1XBp4g1ldQ/s1600/IMG_3094.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix7hFKLAObVAjBQcbe-4quiBWilMNe8vqoq986Le6t4pk8KyLOxUAFOnsB4mlpxKjvWSSQr5azHT1Kfk3RT_OcwebtIYwrN1qVPcxbhcNYowF1dqJv52jZLPA0LSfweJRax1XBp4g1ldQ/s320/IMG_3094.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> The doorway you can kind of see just past the sunflower wall will be turned into a small pantry (hooray for a place to store my canned food besides under the beds). The flooring in the living room, kitchen/dining room, hallway and den are getting a nice laminate flooring, the bathrooms will remain tile (the master bath the tile has to be replaced but it will be tile) carpet in the bedrooms and the sunroom will keep its current tile.<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOR4avCLWdURsB4oB3oZxMkpN1lx3DRsNFyk-bg6llBFEJf6oQKXt5WyTqyBQQcgJq3sZ0nHB6oRWRxv3oY2X5OylRWEBsUCyqOYqa-sBGZZrWHFlxiCDhMmtbwjtn9qSAi7mQpWWIH-A/s1600/IMG_3098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOR4avCLWdURsB4oB3oZxMkpN1lx3DRsNFyk-bg6llBFEJf6oQKXt5WyTqyBQQcgJq3sZ0nHB6oRWRxv3oY2X5OylRWEBsUCyqOYqa-sBGZZrWHFlxiCDhMmtbwjtn9qSAi7mQpWWIH-A/s320/IMG_3098.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> These are a shot of the den with the second front door which will be removed and replaced with a window and wall. I refuse to run between the two doors when someone knocks trying to figure out which door they are at. This got me thinking, Colby and I had been talking about going somewhere fun in the summer but couldn't decide on someplace that we both could agree upon. Colby served his mission in the DC South Mission and we had visited for just a couple of days a few years ago (which turned out to be over six years ago, time flies) but we had always wanted to go back, spending more time there. One thing led to another and we were off to spend 9 wonderful, exhausting, humid, tiring, fabulous days in the Washington DC area. <div><br /><div>I had to get this photo of how we spent our layover in Chicago, Colby is watching a Netflix movie on his cell phone while Jill watched a movie on her iPod nano and I read a book on my Kindle. It felt so techie but I laughed at all the travelers fighting over the power outlets to charge up their devices. </div></div>Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-25955584414012091702011-01-16T18:32:00.001-08:002011-01-16T18:35:53.017-08:00Jillian's Senior Pictures<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgabEkgSOzXLgLOgBdkqTb1Xb46ATLos3PGXb6YQqPp2VCowdJRWl00Hri1Zqqx1QolV8UWPwKOuarIlnScEyc0U1ugt_j0TFcTS-LzCRtU8p6sm6ZCrN9x7V9UKUyl2y2MBXikSaYnAWU/s1600/Senior+Picture.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 219px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgabEkgSOzXLgLOgBdkqTb1Xb46ATLos3PGXb6YQqPp2VCowdJRWl00Hri1Zqqx1QolV8UWPwKOuarIlnScEyc0U1ugt_j0TFcTS-LzCRtU8p6sm6ZCrN9x7V9UKUyl2y2MBXikSaYnAWU/s320/Senior+Picture.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562977984065102098" /></a><br /><br />Part of the reason Jillian came to stay with me over the summer was so Erika could take her Senior Pictures. (Hey, that is the coldest it gets here in the winter, I almost needed a coat :) ). Instead we went to the Maritime Museum, it was amazing! Basically, it is nine ships that you pay a small entrance fee and you get to explore all nine ships. The first was the <i>Star of India</i> an 1800s British Merchant ship that transported goods and people all over the world.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZgH7DN7fMN2-n64e6TdGMzKREdTcfAnPAeTDII9QrcAqkyKuw9DSNV6IJQFMBSrW3r-vZE8lMWBR9lcY6U93srmcvdwhOkQSM8qbP5z793FoNaAVXae_0M2bZ8250lq3_ci5r3uYuQlk/s1600/IMG_2317.JPG"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZgH7DN7fMN2-n64e6TdGMzKREdTcfAnPAeTDII9QrcAqkyKuw9DSNV6IJQFMBSrW3r-vZE8lMWBR9lcY6U93srmcvdwhOkQSM8qbP5z793FoNaAVXae_0M2bZ8250lq3_ci5r3uYuQlk/s320/IMG_2317.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484617214121810146" border="0" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"><br /></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;">It was incredible to see how large the ship was and </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;">then to imagine the number of people crammed onto</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;">for months at a time. We ate lunch at this great restaurant on the pier, with huge glass windows overlooking the bay. As we were eating there was a small ship with a large mat in that had a dolphin swimming along the side, every so often the dolphin would jump into the ship, the trainers would give it a treat and then it would jump back into the ocean. Our waitress told us that they used the dolphin to check for mines and bombs under the piers up and down the coast in the fight against terrorism. It was so amazing to watch the dolphin working with the trainers and to think about man and animal working together. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-20632654019264438172010-06-19T15:20:00.001-07:002010-06-19T16:35:41.797-07:00CA Pool Party<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY_F0UFXXnHKVw6GRvJj9fmGtm3iczD3YY5YUi-a9816jOaCTKm6s1-_35QF-V4Lo0IT6kGvW48WSi0b0dehkdgqg236Ye-LHz0D3wmQWKc3RSKcPWaig33_XxlzbPFJXhftYQP8hja_A/s1600/IMG_2297.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY_F0UFXXnHKVw6GRvJj9fmGtm3iczD3YY5YUi-a9816jOaCTKm6s1-_35QF-V4Lo0IT6kGvW48WSi0b0dehkdgqg236Ye-LHz0D3wmQWKc3RSKcPWaig33_XxlzbPFJXhftYQP8hja_A/s320/IMG_2297.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484613573221808050" border="0" /></a>After back-to-back days at theme parks we were tired! After we left Sea World we decided to order pizza and relax in the hot tub, just enjoying each other's company instead of trying to find somewhere to eat. It was great! Not seen in the photo are Kim and Sharlene who sat at the other edge, just letting their feet soak and Rado who pulled up a chair and kept us company.Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-77578535291330595472010-06-19T14:52:00.001-07:002010-06-19T16:36:48.057-07:00CA Vacation Sea World<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmK1bTLSb87kmB108Fmm7JwQjVh5hNgvzQ6HeBs564UfQJox5wf0c-aYKc3dJ_ijeahLdpwKmK39p7CBZIYJzOKjR1Mu02F5wYvUSRXvdP1mA0_aKctON_WSCoBGTI8URgdAdqqLWOem4/s1600/IMG_2211.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmK1bTLSb87kmB108Fmm7JwQjVh5hNgvzQ6HeBs564UfQJox5wf0c-aYKc3dJ_ijeahLdpwKmK39p7CBZIYJzOKjR1Mu02F5wYvUSRXvdP1mA0_aKctON_WSCoBGTI8URgdAdqqLWOem4/s320/IMG_2211.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484607172628310642" border="0" /></a>On day three of our vacation we went to Seaworld. We went straight to the dolphin enclosure, hoping to see them feeding the dolphins and instead, the workers brought in their pet dogs to play with the dolphins. If you look closely on the left in the front there is a Border Collie that spent the whole time running back and forth in front of the glass trying to lick the dolphins. The dolphins loved it and kept tapping the glass to get the attention of the dog. We had a great time I only got a little sunburnt when the sun finally decided to come out and play.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6O9ETIvxhAcrbs5YiJWDmA7cVccArTIdIm3UQUA19w29FDaYgzekud-NaWEO-BpX74S_6bGeHfMqE9jHtSPcRsg_5y2NDqIKr0P_ojWw39v9JddsdiTkFtePTv_rz7ZjFhyphenhyphenptBR74mhU/s1600/IMG_2272.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6O9ETIvxhAcrbs5YiJWDmA7cVccArTIdIm3UQUA19w29FDaYgzekud-NaWEO-BpX74S_6bGeHfMqE9jHtSPcRsg_5y2NDqIKr0P_ojWw39v9JddsdiTkFtePTv_rz7ZjFhyphenhyphenptBR74mhU/s320/IMG_2272.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484612696859152994" border="0" /></a></div>Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-74526616720066667292010-05-21T22:23:00.001-07:002010-05-21T22:50:40.965-07:00CA Vacation Legoland<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-X6gS4DHY794fQA-fZnzP477nwp4jvZyzzgqNBzc0lAlTyQQdqgZ1V-oKvr7yt7j0zlDukG-PNNmrLSuQsKgHrGRV-37-dya84MsmegozBabAGBWltPqMYf7Eiu0E6WSpthAV0_idvHk/s1600/IMG_2172.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-X6gS4DHY794fQA-fZnzP477nwp4jvZyzzgqNBzc0lAlTyQQdqgZ1V-oKvr7yt7j0zlDukG-PNNmrLSuQsKgHrGRV-37-dya84MsmegozBabAGBWltPqMYf7Eiu0E6WSpthAV0_idvHk/s320/IMG_2172.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473962526243591970" /></a>On the first full day in CA we went to Legoland. The first day there we went to the beach and FROZE! Unfortunately, we choose a very cold week to be there. It was hard to leave the 90 degree weather in Phoenix for the 60 degree weather in California. After walking in the sand and ocean without shoes we weren't able to find a place to wash our feet so Kim and Lachelle made do with an outdoor hand washing facility by the bathroom. The crazy people at the beach were actually swimming in that overcast cold weather. I guess Colby and I have adjusted to Phoenix alot more quickly than I expected.<div><br /></div><div>The photo below is an accurate photo of how the guys spent most of the trip, gathered around Colby's phone looking at something or other.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimXqaS96_cyhWOBoXT33iKFZ_htY4MDK911QbE_oszHo2caV-iIsYadSkKnRTzJIYWpTQu8zNS3G73RjFrAdnW-14vXZvzuvaWd3dYAM3tZeAKS0KSs3JBWsYZP8TQEFa6c6laK0wxvfA/s1600/IMG_2141.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimXqaS96_cyhWOBoXT33iKFZ_htY4MDK911QbE_oszHo2caV-iIsYadSkKnRTzJIYWpTQu8zNS3G73RjFrAdnW-14vXZvzuvaWd3dYAM3tZeAKS0KSs3JBWsYZP8TQEFa6c6laK0wxvfA/s320/IMG_2141.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473961552448968066" /></a></div>Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2212116369191577057.post-30602668516191688342010-04-28T00:23:00.001-07:002010-05-21T22:02:10.113-07:00New Life, New Messes<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-dHoHFe5M_FqcgKgmrjV9PmfOuQoliD_jb1cw0EOSqi_gi5yYhq7kXQFkamtjY6kx663mB8D7XFHHV7bQq88yrjpsn-J8Mftn0NoLOHy3xYga5X_cfJDn9unRiSQLJwRX1f6NOBKsokE/s1600/IMG_2133.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-dHoHFe5M_FqcgKgmrjV9PmfOuQoliD_jb1cw0EOSqi_gi5yYhq7kXQFkamtjY6kx663mB8D7XFHHV7bQq88yrjpsn-J8Mftn0NoLOHy3xYga5X_cfJDn9unRiSQLJwRX1f6NOBKsokE/s320/IMG_2133.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465086288515849986" /></a>This Spring we were very excited to see that a Mama Hummingbird was building her nest in our carport. We checked daily to see if the little eggs had hatched. Every time we went outside the Mama bird would fly away so we have watched the nest through our living room side window. Finally it happened, we saw Mama feeding the baby birds. Slowly the birds have been getting bigger. If you look closely you can see two beaks sticking up out of the nest.<div><br /></div><div>You are thinking "Awww, how cute!" right?! Wrong! What we didn't factor in and what most people fail to think about is that Mama bird doesn't leave the nest to take care of business, she just lifts her little hind end over the edge of the nest to make sure it doesn't land in nest. As the baby birds have gotten bigger, they have followed Mama's example very well. What does this mean? Well, my car is completely covered and I dive into every time I need to leave, afraid that I will be tagged getting in. If you look closely, all the white marks are from the birds. Oh the joys of new life.</div><div><br /></div><div>Okay, I am embarrassed to admit that I drafted this post some time ago and thought I had posted it but I hadn't. A quick update on the birds, turns out hummingbirds have more than one clutch a year and she is currently sitting on new eggs and I anticipate that I will have a dirty car for the next couple of months.</div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwHcX4Ftfiki3t1rn8BcTz-0cO8tyQa_5COZSKX5pvSljg8HkLi2guqascBlNOua7FeH07Vrmd1ghi8zFJajQx1GdxZShvQ8xBq3ozmD61_5rAIy1sNanLcZLb93WNfe-IMBsdV2yts8/s1600/IMG_2136.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwHcX4Ftfiki3t1rn8BcTz-0cO8tyQa_5COZSKX5pvSljg8HkLi2guqascBlNOua7FeH07Vrmd1ghi8zFJajQx1GdxZShvQ8xBq3ozmD61_5rAIy1sNanLcZLb93WNfe-IMBsdV2yts8/s320/IMG_2136.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465088250598886962" /></a></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwHcX4Ftfiki3t1rn8BcTz-0cO8tyQa_5COZSKX5pvSljg8HkLi2guqascBlNOua7FeH07Vrmd1ghi8zFJajQx1GdxZShvQ8xBq3ozmD61_5rAIy1sNanLcZLb93WNfe-IMBsdV2yts8/s1600/IMG_2136.JPG"></a>Jessica and Colbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592789699207760524noreply@blogger.com0
