Gun industry's economic impact soars 158%, jobs, wages up, record taxes paid

In the latest sign that President Obama has been good for gun sales, the economic impact of the firearms and ammo industry jumped 158 percent since he took office, according to the sector's trade group.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, which represents the industry, said the economic impact increased from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $49.3 billion in 2015.

What's more, direct, supplier and indirect employment jumped 73 percent to 287,986, bigger than the populations of Buffalo, N.Y., Toledo, Ohio, or Newark, N.J.

Factory .223 and 5.56 ammunition is also relatively inexpensive when compared to other centerfire rifle cartridges, which helps fuel the consumption of these cartridges.

Within the various types of .223 and 5.56 ammunition, bullet weights of 55gr and 62gr are the most popular, thanks to the USGI M193 (55gr) and M855 (62gr) 5.56 NATO rounds. While actual USGI M193 and M855 is technically not available to the commercial market, commercial ammunition manufacturers do produce ammunition to similar specifications of M193 and M855 (at least with regards to muzzle velocity and pressure).

I had the privilege of taking a newcomer to gun culture out to the range recently. What a joy that is to see every time! To see a man grab hold and embrace it is even better. For someone who hasn't pew pewed as much as us, you can damn well be sure that this guy will be back for more. He also got to shoot a G17, G26, Ruger P345, Colt 1911, Colt Targetsman, SKS, AR 223/5.56, and an AR in 7.62X39.

He warned me that I was creating a monster... We shall see!

Armament Research Services (ARES) has a database of Conflict Material (CONMAT), logging arms and munitions documented within the illicit sphere in conflict and post-conflict zones. I have been working on co-athoring a report with N.R. Jenzen-Jones covering Libyan arms trading conducted via social media platforms between November 2014 and November 2015 for Small Arms Survey. One of the interesting side benefits of digging through a database of thousands of documented arms is finding some particularly entertaining ones.

Let’s begin with a simple piece of conversion work. We all know that lighter is better for small arms, right? So why not remove the extraneous bits of your rifle to make it handier?

How To Upgrade An AK-47 Trigger

AK-47 rifles were designed to be maintained in the field with few or no tools. Installing a trigger is pretty simple and straightforward, with a few considerations.

The trigger used in the photos is an ALG Defense AKT trigger. It is an excellent trigger and similar to most in terms of installation. Some other aftermarket triggers are different, but this should cover most.

Every AK receiver is different even if it came from the same country of origin. Some are completely different, so make sure the trigger you purchase is designed to be used in your rifle — never assume they are “all the same.” AK parts are seldom the same, so minor fitting might be required.

The convenience and portability of handguns make them the best choice for self-defense outside of the home. Inside the home, however, concealment and portability are not as important. While rifles are much larger, they can provide an ease of use and superior firepower when compared to handguns. Although any rifle may be better than no gun at all, for home defense, there are a few options available that are well suited to the task. Of these options, the most famous, and the easiest to use, is the AR-15 style rifle.

Gun manufacturing in U.S. continues to skyrocket, new report shows

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The number of guns made in the U.S. continues to skyrocket, according to a study released Monday from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Since January 2009, the total number of firearms made in the U.S. nearly doubled — from 5.5 million to nearly 10.9 million, according to the annual study.

The report examines the number of federally licensed firearms dealers and manufacturers, as well as the number of imported and exported firearms and explosives.

She had her concealed pistol license, but Marcy Jankovich didn't feel comfortable carrying.

"I didn't feel confident that I wouldn't shoot my toe off," she explained.

So, Jankovich helped create the Jackson chapter of the Well Armed Woman, a gun club just for women.

"There's something for every level of experience, but our mission and our purpose is to educate, equip and empower women in the safe use of firearms and self defense," Jankovich told News Ten.

Right now, there are over 250 chapters across the country, ten of those are in Michigan. That means there are well over 7,000 women in the U.S. learning the safety and proper techniques of a firearm.

Mech Tech Carbine Kit

Any of you readers have some experience with this kit that you'd like to share?

I have a Glock that I think would absolutely love to be fitted with this kit.

My thoughts : It's cheaper than a Kel-Tec Sub2000. I've already got 33 rnd extended mags. I'm not into guns that fold in half (Kel-Tec Sub2000). 9mm in a Carbine is cheap to shoot. Side charging is cool as shit. I can pick up a Glock frame and dedicate it to this kit for cheap.

Lay it on me if you have some words on this kit.

Shooting trap a now the fastest-growing sport in U.S. high schools. The sport is becoming increasingly popular in Minnesota high schools, and has recently been recognized in North Dakota and Wisconsin high schools.

The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League championship is the biggest shooting sport event in the world, according to Esme Deprez of Bloomberg. During its inception in 2009, the championship only had 30 shooters. This year, there were more than 5,000 shooters, 20,000 spectators, as well as sponsors like SKB Shotguns and Benelli Armi SpA.

Deprez said vendors like Browning sales agent Dusty Minke could see potential customers wherever he looks.

Shooting trap is now the fastest-growing sport in Minnesota high schools. The sport has recently caught the attention of nearby North Dakota and Wisconsin, according to Grace Smith of Education News. While anti-gun groups were probably unhappy with this, gun retailers and manufacturers are pleased. The National Shooting Sports Foundation said the average teen who competes in the sport will spend about $75,000 on it over his lifetime.
