It was reported last week that teenagers who are on the welfare system for conditions like anxiety are getting paid more than their cohorts on minimum wage. I was shocked that teenagers are entitled to benefits and gob smacked that it is profitable for them to be on benefits than being employed! Sadly, there will be some who play the system.
In other news, it is another sweltering day for us. Irresponsible people continue to use disposable barbecues which have been the cause of several wild fires this summer.

I was getting a little anxious one day this week as the sexton hadn’t arrived to prepare the plot for burial in the churchyard the following day. I hasten to add that it was absolutely none of my business as I don’t interfere in church business but I was just
nosyconcerned. The day of the burial arrived and still no sign of the sexton. By the way, a sexton is a grave digger. A few hours before the burial, the sexton turned up in his digger. He was topless! In other news, the grouchiness has gone but the heat has intensified. It is 34 degrees celcius at the moment. According to weather forecasters, the temperature will hit 38 degrees celcius by this evening!
Finally, I read somewhere that it is International Left Handers Day today so a big hello to all my fellow lefties! Did you know that Sir Winston Churchill was left handed?

It’s another hot day and I am grouchy! The vicar is busy with funerals this week so today’s post might be apt.
We live on the grounds of the church and so the churchyard is literally on our door step. Every morning, we look out to the churchyard from bed as we enjoy our morning cup of tea. I can never get tired of the serenity of the churchyard. However, my appreciation daily gets interrupted by dog walkers who let their dogs run amok in the churchyard. This is something that I do not approve of as the churchyard is a sacred place. I can just about tolerate it if the dogs are on a lead but they never are! Their owners have no qualms about their dogs using the churchyard as their loo.
In other news, I had to change my usual Ocado delivery this week as there is going to be a funeral at the same time as my delivery. We do not want a repeat of the time where the Ocado guy couldn’t get out as he was hemmed in by the hearse and a sea of mourners in black! It was a sight to behold!
Finally, I have been practicing my flourishes in the hope that it will cure me of my grouchiness!

Another busy day at the vicarage. I was busy with my Tuesday jobs in the kitchen. The sun is once again out in full force. The vicarage garden and the churchyard look parched. There is nothing that mankind can do at the moment except to say the following prayer from the Book of Common Prayer.
O God, heavenly Father, who by thy Son Jesus Christ hast promised to all them that seek thy kingdom, and the righteousness thereof, all things necessary to their bodily sustenance: Send us, we beseech thee, in this our necessity, such moderate rain and showers, that we may receive the fruits of the earth to our comfort, and to thy honour; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here in England, we are officially into our 5th heatwave. I sincerely hope that this will be the final one before the Autumn begins.
Church yesterday was fine. We had a little human with a big voice who joined us at our BCP service. A big well done to his mother for at least trying to keep his big voice from overtaking the vicar’s!
In other news, I have just accidentally discovered the difference between sugar beets and sugar cane. I won’t bore you with the details. I for one prefer to bake with sugar from sugar cane.

The main story in our newspaper this week has been that of a Professor from the University of Cambridge who has been accused of plagiarism. He has also been accused of embellishing his CV. I don’t think this matter has been investigated thoroughly so I don’t know what is the truth so I will refrain from commenting on it.
However, this incident has once again caused me to question my own blog posts. Do I embellish my writings? This has been my major concern since I started writing especially after I had gone public. I can honestly say that everything that I write is the truth. Quite frankly, life in the vicarage is exciting enough so there is no need for any embellishment !!!
In other news, we had cottage pie for our evening meal this evening. Unfortunately, my potato topping was too soft and collapsed! However, the meal itself was still quite tasty despite the sloppy mess on the plate.
Back on Monday (DV).

It’s another busy day here at the vicarage. I’ve been a busy bee since 6am. Not by choice though! I have done everything on my to do list for today which just leaves me enough time to discuss our new Prime Minister’s wardrobe!
I must confess that I have been unable to recognise Mr Burnham since he became Prime Minister because he is always in a suit and tie! Prior to that, I had never seen him in a suit and tie. I am of course pretty pleased that he is bothering to dress up. Previously, it was either him in his exercise gear or a black t-shirt. I read last week that some of his items of clothing including his black t-shirt comes from Private White VC, the last stand-alone clothing factory in Manchester. If this is true, then well done to him for supporting a British manufacturer.
In other news, the vicar had to have some dental work done this week. He needed to be on a soft diet for a few hours after that and so for lunch he asked for Campbells cream of chicken soup as it is one of his comfort food. I almost threw the spanner in the works when I gave him Marks & Spencer cream of chicken soup instead of the trusted Campbells. Thankfully, he gave it a big thumbs up and has declared that he is not going back to Campbells!

It was a busy day at the vicarage today. Plenty happening which meant that I didn’t have my usual quiet window to gather my thoughts for today’s post so I will keep it brief.
The other day, I momentarily got confused and assumed that St Augustine of Hippo and St Augustine of Canterbury were the same people! St Augustine of Hippo was a Theologian and Philosopher while St Augustine of Canterbury was a Christian monk who became the first Archbishop of Canterbury in 597.
In other news, I heard on the radio last night that only 17% of the UK population have a cleaner! I was surprised by that figure as I was expecting more households to have one. Do you have a cleaner?
