We think a lot alike; I know I could not stand having someone around all the time -- it's bad enough I've go the kids here lol.

As for your oven... ugh. I guess homemade pizza would be out. My oven isn't the best but at least it heats up -- fast and hard -- figure 600 degrees within 10 minutes! Course getting it to 350 is a trick. But I'd lend it to you if I could. :)

Greetings from an old Accra blogger who happens to be in Bandung. So all week I've been hankering for a beer but no lock...Ramadan. I've had no luck. I didn't even see any of the local pubs serving that "special coffee" in coffee mugs.

So I'm about a mile from the hostel, I see (thanks Google maps) a University and I figure if any place in this city of 3 million is going to have beer, its the University,

So I head into the Circle K, Yes they are everywhere, though their selection is the same. Same cokes and malt beverage that looks like beer.

The shop keepers see me lose my smile, then "Hello Mister...you want something?" I shake my head no, then they say "Beer?" My eyes light up, "Beer?" I nod.

One kid takes me to where the large bottles of coke are in the cooler,
and digs behind several rows, and shows me what they have. Biltong,
the local beer. Yes, I'll take two.

I walk the mile back to the hostel with a smile on my face, now just
wondering, where am I going to lose the empties.

That is absolutely incredible! Puts the Accra Silverbird Cinema to shame. All we get for our 16 GHC is a crappy seat with a cupholder, sticky floor and no air conditioning (until someone complains). I am coming to Jakarta! (I wish.)

I can't even begin to imagine your frustration level. Well, maybe the beginning stage, but the end? No way. I'd have an ulcer to match Ted's. It's gotten worse here in the two years (that long already?) since you're gone. Took us 45 minutes to get from the new traffic light at the University of Legon junction to the traffic light near Wild Gecko... what is that? Half a mile? Good thing we allowed 3+ hours for our trip to Korle Bu. Ugh. Yes, a good book or headphones and some good tunes. And a beer or two couldn't hurt either. Stay strong you two!

We've been back from Ghana three years, and still I flinch when I, by accident, pass or accept something with my left hand. Most cases I will reach my right hand over my left and accept that thing someone is handing me on my left side.

And eating! Oh my, I still can't eat with my left hand.

Hahaha.... what a great story! I have got to admit I didn't get the carrots either till the light bulb went off. I'd have been looking for the coin operated gumball/feed pellet machine, too.

And fear not, my friend, I'd have done the same lame-o crap as you with the closed windows while everyone else tempted the critters. Wait. I have done the same lame-o crap. Only it was at Six Flags in NJ and most of the animals there were born and raised in Hoboken.

Thank you for this interesting story. Now I learned what selamat natal dan tahun baru means and I will be able to send christmas greetings in bahasa to my Indonesian godchild.
