First of all, thank you so much for all of the congratulations! Ryan and I are so happy and excited for our future together and we’re lucky to have all of you to share it with.
As for the proposal, Ryan recently sent this synopsis to a friend. I think he did a nice job describing how it went down.
“As of Tuesday night, Alia and I are engaged! I bought the ring a couple of weeks ago while she was down in Cali for her sister’s (Erin’s) baby shower. I WAS going to propose this weekend, but I had to work out the plan first. Then on Tuesday morning, she told me about a dream she had about how I proposed to her on a job site with a crappy wooden ring with feathers sticking out of it. She said yes, of course, but was disappointed by the craptacularity of the ring. Apparently, I was stoked on it because I bought it for $30 on sale (regularly $120 [what a steal!]). So in real life, I made a ring from cardboard and paper like the one in her dream. I proposed to her at home later that night with the fake ring. I asked her if she would marry me with the crappy ring. She thought I was joking, but she said yes, and then I asked her if she’d marry me with the real ring. And that’s more or less how it went. Pretty standard marriage proposal, if you ask me. Anyway, we’re way excited! There’s no date or anything set yet (that seems to be everyone’s follow up question…just thought I’d get that out there now).”
Here’s a picture of the “dream ring” (which only fit on my pinky) and the real thing. He did a fabulous job on both of them!

Now I have a wedding to plan… 🙂
